Must be Harry Potter.

Sounds like stuff that could be in Dianetics, but that's been made into a little more than a movie.

I have no idea.

Brave new World
1984

Those are the only sci fi books I read in school.

As for the idea of Alien Life. I sure hope so, it would be so awesome to talk to some aliens before I die.

Nope. Although that was a pretty good book.

Pack - Wasn't the Andromeda Strain about a meteor hitting Earth and a lot of people died due to the virus that the meteor contained? I don't think the book left Earth, if I remember correctly.

Oh, Zero did name the author, but that doesn't count. So the answer is in Zero's post.

Yes it was... now that you mention it.. that is the piece I remember.. it was the virus (or infected) that couldn't survive long term (or something to that effect) on earth due to the high oxygen levels.. or maybe I am "misremembering" the details.. anyway.. that is where I pulled the reference from in my cloudy mind.

[strike]I'm gonna go with Philip K Dick. I've read a few of his novels, but don't recall that phrase. There's a lot of movies based on his works, and he's a relatively popular sci fi author. It seems like something one of his characters might say in jest too.[/strike]

Ooh actually, it could be Carl Sagan in Contact. That seems like a good possibility. I'll go with that.

Alright folks.

It was Ray Bradbury's The Martian Chronicles. In one of the stories, Martians were talking to each other about Earth and said something along the lines of "that's impossible. There's no way there could be life on that planet because there's too much oxygen."

And yes, oxygen saved the day for us in Andromeda Strain. Had it not been for oxygen, if I remember correctly, the human race would have been wiped out.

Interesting. I've never read or even heard of that book. So must've been a high school reading 'requirement' back in the day. =)

Andromeda Strain was one of the VERY few Micheal Crichton books that I haven't read. I can't list his books in any order of which I liked most to least, as they are alllll good.

While I'm on this subject... A Crichton book I read had swarms of something that would mimic humans/objects and would terrorize the heroes.. What was the name of that book? EDIT: I looked it up.. But I'll keep the question up as a trivia. BTW, there are two new Crichton books that have been released that I never seen before.. One in 2006 and the other last year. Hmmmmmmm..

beast (30-Jan) : College Coaches wouldn't want that publicly, as it would hurt recruiting and they might not get the job.
beast (30-Jan) : I thought they were supposed to publicly announce them, at least the NFL ones. Hafley was from college, so I believe different rules.
Mucky Tundra (30-Jan) : Who knows who they're interviewing? I mean, nobody knew about Hafley and then out of nowhere he was hired
