The Green Bay Packers' second week of OTA practices is underway, and attendance at the organized team activities is nearly perfect so far.

There are even a few unexpected attendees, like injured corner Al Harris.

Harris has been rehabbing in Florida after having total knee reconstruction last November. He has chronicled his comeback online with the National Football Post.

But Harris will do the rest of his rehab in Green Bay under the Packers' watchful eye.

He has no doubts he'll return to full strength despite his 36th birthday coming in December.

"Rehab is tough. I mean, you really work working. It's tough to train. Watching my players makes me want to go out there and work harder, do the range-of-motion drills and the back pedals more, and trying to get better and stuff like that," Harris said.

One of the reasons why his rehab might've been so tough...

Packers CB Harris' injury was "very rare"

by Evan Silva

As noted in Thursday morning's one-liners, injured cornerback Al Harris made a surprise appearance at Packers Organized Team Activities on Wednesday.

The visit can be called a "surprise" because Harris has stayed away from offseason workouts to this point while rehabbing a knee injury. Since Harris went down in Week Eleven of last year, we've been under the impression that he's been recovering from a run-of-the-mill torn ACL.

Until now.

"It is a very rare injury," revealed Harris' physical therapist, Joe Caroccio. "He had a torn anterior cruciate ligament, torn lateral collateral ligament, torn iliotibial band, fibular collateral ligament, and torn lateral hamstring."

We've never heard of an iliotibial band or a fibular collateral ligament, but this sounds especially severe, particularly when the patient is entering his age-36 season.

"Guys don't normally come back from injuries such as this," Harris admitted. "So ... you read that and take it for exactly what it is."

Harris recently began jogging, but admits there's no timetable for his return. He promised Wednesday that he isn't ready to retire.

Caroccio remains optimistic, probably in part because the Packers are paying him serious coin to make sure their two-time Pro Bowl corner returns.

"Will he be back? Definitely," said Caroccio. "The training we put him through has been very intense. Al's level of intensity and persistence with the goals he set are very high, and they're something he wants to achieve."

Worth keeping in mind are coach Mike McCarthy's comments on the injury in late April, before we knee the complexity of Harris' surgery. At the time, McCarthy termed it "a real serious injury" and hinted that two separate operations were performed on Harris' knee. McCarthy also compared Harris' recovery timetable to Mark Tauscher's in 2008. Tauscher blew out his knee in early December and didn't resume playing until the following November.

With Harris coming off a career-threatening injury at age 35, Charles Woodson going on 34, and Tramon Williams entering a contract year, we're left wondering why Packers G.M. Ted Thompson didn't invest more into the cornerback position this offseason.

I hadn't read that anywhere before. So it'll be even harder for him to come back with this injury.

Why didn't we invest in a CB? I think Evan needs to read PH.com a little.

Wow! I had no idea Harris's injury was so serious. I figured it was just a standard knee injury. I figured he'd be back starting by mid season. From reading that article it sounds like he may not come back at all.

With a torn iliotibial band, he will probably have pain the rest of his life. Iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS), an inflammatory overuse injury, is a frequent side effect of long-distance running and can be excruciating. I can't imagine how painful a torn ITB must be.

dfosterf (46m) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (47m) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (1h) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (1h) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (1h) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (2h) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (2h) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (2h) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (2h) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (2h) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (2h) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (2h) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (2h) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (2h) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (2h) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (4h) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (4h) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (4h) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (20h) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.
dfosterf (15-Apr) : I may have to move

dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : The manner in which he won it was just amazing and wonderful. First blowing the lead then getting back, then blowing it. But ultimately
Zero2Cool (12-Apr) : I'm guessing since the thumb was broken, he wasn't feeling it.
dfosterf (10-Apr) : Looking for guidance. Not feeling the thumb.
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : If they knew about it or not
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : I don't recall that he did which is why I asked.
Zero2Cool (10-Apr) : Guessing they probably knew. Did he have cast or something on?
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : Did they know that at the time or was that something the realized afterwards?
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Van Ness played most of season with broken thumb
wpr (9-Apr) : yay
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Mark Murphy says Steelers likely to protect Packers game. Meaning, no Ireland
Zero2Cool (8-Apr) : Struggling to figure out what text editor options are needed and which are 'nice to have'
Mucky Tundra (8-Apr) : *CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP*
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : WR who said he'd break Xavier Worthy 40 time...and ran slower than you
Mucky Tundra (2-Apr) : Who?
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : Texas’ WR Isaiah Bond is scheduled to visit the Bills, Browns, Chiefs, Falcons, Packers and Titans starting next week.
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : Spotting ball isn't changing, only measuring distance is, Which wasn't the issue.
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : The spotting of the ball IS the issue. Not the chain gang.
Mucky Tundra (2-Apr) : Will there be a tracker on the ball or something?
Zero2Cool (1-Apr) : uh oh
