The average periodical in America is written at a 3rd- to 5th-grade level. I agree that is ridiculous. The point of reading should be to challenge, to educate, to exercise and expand the mind, not to cater to laziness.

+1 to the first person who successfully identifies the American periodical with the highest reading level.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's the Christian Science Monitor. I used to read that paper just because it wasn't made for Paris Hilton level mild retards like the rest of the papers seem to be.

And no, I'm not a Christian Scientist. I don't even know what they believe.

Nevertheless, it has the highest reading level of any general-consumption periodical in this country. In contrast to Time, which is written on a 3rd- to 5th-grade reading level, this magazine is written on a 12th-grade reading level (the highest level on the scale).

Scoff all you want, but the articles are really interesting. The pictures . . . not so much.

Sorry folks, the fake blonde fake boob fake lips fake tan airbrushed pictures of Playboy do absolutely nothing for me.

I wonder how Playboy compares to Vanity Fair. I think VF has much better articles and better interviews as well.

I will give Hefner some credit. For one, he's a stud. For another, Playboy helped get us out of the dark ages in American sexuality of the 1950s.

STEVENS POINT -- A 41-year-old Plover woman faces up to 10 years in prison after she was accused of going on a blow-dart shooting spree.

Paula Wolf was charged Tuesday with six counts of second-degree recklessly endangering safety and one count of criminal damage to property after a week long spree in April during which she allegedly hit four pedestrians with a blow dart. She missed two others and shot rocks at a Portage County Sheriff's Department squad car with a sling shot, according to a police report.

Each count of recklessly endangering safety is a felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $25,000 fine. The criminal damage to property charge is a misdemeanor.

Wolf will have a preliminary hearing at 10:45 a.m. May 14 in Portage County Court.

According to the criminal complaint:

After she was taken into custody April 21, Wolf admitted to Stevens Point Police to firing darts at at least three people in downtown Stevens Point and another person near Mead Park. She also said that, on at least five other occasions, she had gone downtown and shot at pedestrians with the blow gun.

When asked by an officer if she had shot a dart at 960 Main St. that shattered the outside panel of the door, Wolf "responded with laughter and stated, 'That was a good one.'"

Wolf also told police that at no time did she consider the possibility that someone could have been seriously injured. One woman who was hit in the chest with a dart told police it would have had to pass near a friend's head to hit her, and a man who wasn't hit said the dart missed his head by about five inches. One man struck in the chest went to the emergency room.

David Perry, a doctor at Saint Michael's Hospital, told police it was his medical opinion that there was potential for a life-threatening injury if a dart hit a torso with enough force, and if it didn't strike a rib.

beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
