Rat's like what, Cheese. I don't think this tweets or twits or whatever mean anything. Kind of stretching things there.

I think this is more true then anything. He's becoming a "gym rat" because he loves cheese and works out a lot.

My guess is Thompson has complete faith in Brad Jones to be the man. I think this is risky. I believe the guy is good (average) to above average. I'm just not sure if that is enough to get us deep into the playoffs.

Let's hope I'm wrong.

BTW.. I would be opposed to having him in GB.. maybe opposed is too strong.. but I don't think he would be an effective upgrade for the money he is going to want and the possible baggage he might bring.

With that being said.. Woodson had questions as well before he came here.. so like any other acquisition.. I would welcome him to the Packers and then judge him upon his play and actions both on and off the field.

I wouldn't be. The baggage everyone worries about is severely overblown, mostly due to the fame of the woman involved in that incident. As far as the wrestling and whatnot, it doesn't bother me - he's an out-sized personality, and that's not uncommon in the NFL. Look at it this way: people on these boards wanted the Pack to get Joey Porter - this guy's not even in Porter's league when it comes to malcontents.

To me, the main questions are: 1. Health (I worry about the knee and wonder if he's not soon to be a candidate for microfracture surgery). 2. Monetary demands - I agree with you that if he's looking to break the bank he won't fit, but if he's willing to take something lower and more incentive-laden to prove he's still got It, I wouldn't be opposed to the addition. Much like with Woodson, I think his "issues" are overblown, mostly by the SD media, who've decided they don't like him.

For the right price (and I'll concede he might not be willing to accept that), he could come in and make the D a lot scarier.

Any thing is possible. I think it would be a good gamble, especially at 25 and we don't give up a 1st round for him. He was a dominate 3-4 LB.
As far as the idea Ted Thompson doens't go after people with bad reputations or that have been in trouble. Look at the TE we drafted this year.
I would say this is just a rumer but the fact that Merriman twittered this himself sounds like something happening. Like the deal is done (as far as trade) and that a contract is being renegotiated.
To many people seem to think they had Ted Thompson pegged. No one thought he ever would trade up like last years draft with Mathews.

I'd caution you on the part I bolded. It could also be Merriman just stumping for himself. It's pretty clear that he's not long for San Diego - whether the exit is this year or next. He knows his maximum value is as a 3-4 rush LB, and he knows that the Packers need exactly that. So he drops hints in his tweets, knowing full well that we, the Packer fans, will catch them and start drooling at the prospect.

Or you're absolutely right. I'm skeptical, but we'll see.

It's the off season.
Gotta get excited about SOMETHING!!!
If it happens, great. If it doesn't, oh well.
I'm already excited about the coming season!!!!

I'd like to add him just for the pass rushing. It'll give old man Favre one more thing to think about this summer while weasiling out of all off season work.

Hmm, I have six games against Vandenbosch, Peppers, and Green Bay's M&M boys. Maybe it is time to quit. And all along the Vikings could have drafted Clausen.

As for Merriman, I really hope we don't throw the bank at him, becuase he only had 36 tackles and 4 sacks last year. Brad Jones probably had comparable stats. But if Merriman's knee is back to 90%, I would be excited. It seems to me, GB's medical staff would have a lot of input on this.

Interesting. I'll believe it when I see it, but if true, man that opens up things quite a bit for the linebacker core.

If Green Bay did acquire him though, that's a lot of cash tied up in that group. I would have to believe that Poppinga would be gone, and possibly Hawk as well.

I'd have to check San Diego's ILB corps, but I'd say that one of our ILBs would have to be involved - they would want a quality player, and ILB is close to the only spot where we've got that kind of depth. Good call.

Zero2Cool (2h) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (5h) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (5h) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (6h) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (6h) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (6h) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (7h) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (7h) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (7h) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (7h) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (7h) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (7h) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
    Zero2Cool (7h) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (7h) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (7h) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (7h) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (9h) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (9h) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (9h) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
    Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.

dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
    Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : The manner in which he won it was just amazing and wonderful. First blowing the lead then getting back, then blowing it. But ultimately

Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : If they knew about it or not
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : I don't recall that he did which is why I asked.
Zero2Cool (10-Apr) : Guessing they probably knew. Did he have cast or something on?
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : Did they know that at the time or was that something the realized afterwards?
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Van Ness played most of season with broken thumb
    wpr (9-Apr) : yay

    Mucky Tundra (2-Apr) : Who?
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : Texas’ WR Isaiah Bond is scheduled to visit the Bills, Browns, Chiefs, Falcons, Packers and Titans starting next week.
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : Spotting ball isn't changing, only measuring distance is, Which wasn't the issue.
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : The spotting of the ball IS the issue. Not the chain gang.
Mucky Tundra (2-Apr) : Will there be a tracker on the ball or something?
