Green Bay If the Green Bay Packers are interested in acquiring a veteran running back after the draft, add the name of Marshawn Lynch to that of Brian Westbrook on the list of possibilities.

Lynch, a 1,000-yard rusher in 2007 and '08 but with a long history of off-field problems, wants out of Buffalo and the Bills appear more than willing to trade him.

"I'm sure they'd be willing to take whatever at this point," a personnel director for a National Football League team said Friday. "They've got too many guys and they're trying to move him, but I don't know if there's much activity. He just doesn't want to be there. Just not a good situation."

The Packers might have selected Lynch with their first-round draft choice in 2007, but the Bills took him with the 12th choice. Four choices later, Green Bay took defensive tackle Justin Harrell.

Lynch was suspended for the first three games of 2009 after pleading guilty to a weapons charge. Fred Jackson then played so well that Lynch couldn't get his job back.

When the Bills drafted running back C.J. Spiller with the ninth pick Thursday night, Lynch's career in Buffalo appeared finished.

Lynch, who turned 24 Thursday, has two years remaining on a modest contract. He hasn't been participating in the Bills' off-season workout program.

In three seasons, the hard-running Lynch has rushed 650 times for 2,601 yards (4.0) and 17 touchdowns. He also has 93 receptions for 663 yards. Last year, he rushed for 450 yards.

"He went to the Pro Bowl," the personnel man said. "He's a good player."

Lynch, 5 feet, 11 inches and 215 pounds, played in the same backfield with Aaron Rodgers at the University of California in 2004.

Westbrook, 30, became a free agent Feb. 23 when the Philadelphia Eagles released him.

I would like to at the very least talk to him and see where his head is at, although that's probably considered tampering. The weapons charge is worrisome. If it weren't for the off field issues I'd be BEGGING Thompson to pick him up.

Guys with weapon charges don't seem to fit with what Ted Thompson likes.

I'd be tempted though, he's young and would fill our 3rd RB spot nicely.

Who cares about a weapons charge, he would be in Green Bay and can carry a gun if he wants. Hell its always hunting season 😃
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

I think the Packers could reach him. That's Edgar Bennet's job, and I think he's good at it. What would the Bills want? Poppinga? Barbre? Jackson? Jarrett Bush? LOL.
Looks like they're ready to take what they can get.
Then again, there's probably a reason they're at the point where they'll take what they can get. Doesn't seem like there's much interest. And the kid is only 24 and he's very good.
Maybe they'll go after McFadden instead!

He has the hair. lol

Honestly, I'd prefer Westbrook. But I wouldn't be displeased with either signing.

I wouldnt mind seeing him in a packers uni at all. Kid was a beast in university ball and is still only 24 with a modest contract.
Sounds like they would be willing to take just about anything now, possibly D Lee could be on the chopping block with the drafting of another TE.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen got out his rumor extinguisher on Friday afternoon, tweeting, "On Marshawn Lynch, my understanding is Bills have no plans to trade him now." We've also been hearing chatter on Friday that the Bills are still asking for too much in return -- an indirect result of not actually wanting to trade him -- which has scared away most suitors.

The Marshawn Lynch trade rumor fire has been burning furiously for weeks. As of the last update, it appeared that the Seattle Seahawks were the front-runners, and that's still likely the case, given that they passed up on the chance to draft C.J. Spiller on Thursday night.

Speaking of Spiller, the Buffalo Bills made him their pick at No. 9, which, to some, signaled an acceleration in the process of moving Lynch. Not so fast, my friend. ESPN AFC East blogger Tim Graham asked Bills GM Buddy Nix directly what the Spiller pick meant for Lynch's future in Buffalo, and Nix's reponse was, "Nothing. Doesn't change a thing. He's still ours. We intend for him to be here." Graham notes that Nix and head coach Chan Gailey haven't lied to us yet, and wonders why they'd start now. More importantly, Spiller is seen as more of complement to Lynch and Fred Jackson rather than a replacement for either.

not gonna happen

I thought we were gonna draft the kid. I'd like to see what he could do here, but looks like it won't happen anyway.

Man I don't care what the Bills front office is saying, none of those guys are going to be happy with 3-5 touches a game. Which is probably what the #3 guy on the depth chart will get. You might be able to stick Spiller there for half a season but eventually you gotta let the beast out.

I still expect Lynch to be traded.

beast (18h) : 6 days
wpr (17-Apr) : 7 days
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.
dfosterf (15-Apr) : I may have to move
dfosterf (15-Apr) : My wife just told the ancient Japanese sushi dude not enough rice under his fish
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I think a dozen is what I need
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Go fund me for this purpose just might work. A dozen nurses show up at 1265 to provide mental health assistance.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : The manner in which he won it was just amazing and wonderful. First blowing the lead then getting back, then blowing it. But ultimately
Zero2Cool (12-Apr) : I'm guessing since the thumb was broken, he wasn't feeling it.
dfosterf (10-Apr) : Looking for guidance. Not feeling the thumb.
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : If they knew about it or not
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : I don't recall that he did which is why I asked.
Zero2Cool (10-Apr) : Guessing they probably knew. Did he have cast or something on?
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : Did they know that at the time or was that something the realized afterwards?
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Van Ness played most of season with broken thumb
wpr (9-Apr) : yay
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Mark Murphy says Steelers likely to protect Packers game. Meaning, no Ireland
Zero2Cool (8-Apr) : Struggling to figure out what text editor options are needed and which are 'nice to have'
Mucky Tundra (8-Apr) : *CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP*
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : WR who said he'd break Xavier Worthy 40 time...and ran slower than you
Mucky Tundra (2-Apr) : Who?
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : Texas’ WR Isaiah Bond is scheduled to visit the Bills, Browns, Chiefs, Falcons, Packers and Titans starting next week.
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : Spotting ball isn't changing, only measuring distance is, Which wasn't the issue.
