The Vikings wanted Patrick Robinson

Last year around this time, Vikings coach Brad Childress crowed about snatching Percy Harvin one pick before the Patriots, who Childress believed was set to take him.

This year, Childress and Vikings G.M. Rick Spielman may have outsmarted themselves.

Both Judd Zuldad and Chip Scoggins of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune report that the Vikings traded down to No. 34 with the hope of selecting Florida State cornerback Patrick Robinson.

It looked like a safe move, but Saints surprised the Vikings (and everyone else) by taking a cornerback at No. 32.

With Minnesota's apparent favorite target off the board, a trade down early in the second round seems even more likely.

But Outsmarted and Childress seem to be fitting. :physassult:

It doesn't make a whole lot of sense, anyway.

The Colts could go CB. They don't have great players there. Maybe not even good ones. The Rams could pretty much go with any position and improve. There's a pretty realistic chance that that kid is gone when you pick. And what did it net you? A 28 pick improvement in the 4th and a 7th.

The Lions, btw, did a great job there. Best has some serious talent. RotY potential. The Rams could've drafted him or someone could've traded up to the Rams pick for him.

Rock..I just realized your sig/avatar connection. I was gonna ask what's up with the Colts fandom. Then I remembered you're a big fan of Hughes. Too bad the Vikings didn't take him, eh? LOL

Anyway, this is no big issue. While Robinson would have been a nice pick, I'm not completely bummed. They have many options to go from here. This is the NFL Draft.. You win some and you lose some.

Lost Robinson, gained Cook. Sorry I'm late to the party, just got off work. But I like the selection. Was hoping McCoy would drop to their next pick, but Toby Gerhart is another awesome selection, IMO.
