I first posted the Jets one in the shout.. but there are some decent little nuggets that might make some interesting draft day news..

http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/DMN-Our-first-look-at-the-NFL-schedule.html

News and notes around the league

1. The Jets recently reworked Santonio Holmes contract to lower his base salary, so the amount of money thats deducted for his upcoming suspension will be less. When Holmes was traded, most of his money due in 2010 was in the form of his base salary, but since he became a Jet, the team shifted the money into roster bonus, reporting bonus and signing bonus so Holmes would pay as little as possible for his fine. This clearly cannot make the NFL league office happy and goes against the spirit of the suspension.

2. Speaking of the Jets, they are actively shopping guard Alan Faneca, defensive end Shaun Ellis and linebacker Bryan Thomas and will probably waive these players after the draft. You might be surprised to read Fanecas name, but hes the first to go after the draft.

3. The Cowboys would part with defensive end Marcus Spears, linebacker Bobby Carpenter, wide receiver Sam Hurd, safety Pat Watkins and lineman Cory Procter for the right price. All of them are being shopped around the league.

4. Ive been asked several times if the Raiders would take Idaho guard Mike Iupati in the first round. My answer is that it doesnt make sense, but who knows? The Raiders have done a ton of work in recent weeks on linebacker Rolando McClain of Alabama, and although he doesnt have Raider speed, he would be a good pick for them.

5. Im still hearing the Raiders would be willing to trade any corner on their team, Nnamdi Asomugha, Chris Johnson and Stanford Routt are all available.

Our first for Asomugha? I'd do it in under zero seconds.

I wouldn't mind that at all. :thumbright:

I'm surprised to hear the Jets are going to get rid of Alan Faneca.

Faneca ia the nugget that drew my attention the most.. that would help build in a little protection at guard.

Also.. Bryan Thomas would be a serious upgrade over Poppinga.. IMO.

Bryan Thomas is not a good rush OLB. If we draft an OLB, I don't think we have any room for him.

Faneca will be available Monday?

If he could be signed for a reasonable short term deal.. I would love to bring his experience aboard the Packers.. it would lock down any lingering questions on the interior of the line.. and allow us to shift Colledge outside for one last shot at preserving his career in GB.

Cifton Spitz Wells Sitton Tauscher
Lang/Bulaga Faneca Spitz Faneca Lang/Bulaga
Colledge Colledge
And cut the dead weight after that... BTW.. I think looking at all factors, especially footwork, that I am not completely sold that Lang wouldn't be a better long term option at LT. With that said.. I have no problem letting Bulaga start there.. as I think Lang could be more versatile. Did I mention I liked Lang. ;)

Report: Jets will cut Alan Faneca Monday
Posted by Josh Alper on April 24, 2010 6:51 AM ET
It seems that where there was smoke there was fire concerning Alan Faneca's future with the New York Jets.

Manish Mehta of the Newark Star-Ledger is reporting that the team will formally announce the veteran guard's release on Monday. Reports surfaced early last week that Faneca could be on the way out of Rex Ryan's clubhouse and picked up steam through the first two days of the draft.

The Jets were shopping Faneca for a trade, but the $7.5 million they didn't want to pay him was likely a deterrent for other teams as well. With $5.25 million of that contract guaranteed, the Jets clearly don't think Faneca's presence is necessary for them to make a run back to the AFC Championship Game and beyond.

Massachusetts offensive lineman Vladimir Ducasse was the team's second-round pick, another signal that a change was coming, and when G.M. Mike Tannenbaum spoke with reporters Friday night he didn't do much to throw anyone off the scent.

"Alan's on our team. He's done a lot of great things for us. I know this weekend that there's typically a lot of transactions that happen, but he's on our team and Alan's done a lot of great things for us."

The past tense would appear to be the only tense for Faneca and the Jets going forward.

beast (3h) : What is he supposed to say? He doesn't want players currently on the team?
Martha Careful (7h) : meh
Zero2Cool (11h) : Sounds like Walker and Wyatt will be with Packers for beyond 2026
Zero2Cool (11h) : It's so awesome.
Zero2Cool (11h) : new site fan shout post fast
wpr (15h) : Slow posting in Fan shout.
wpr (15h) : Only 4
wpr (15h) : Only 4
Zero2Cool (17h) : If only we had a topic to read about and discuss it. That's something new website must have!!!
dfosterf (18h) : Justice Musqueda over at Acme Packing put up an excellent synopsis of the Packers 1st round options this am
wpr (19-Apr) : 5 days
beast (18-Apr) : 6 days
wpr (17-Apr) : 7 days
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.
dfosterf (15-Apr) : I may have to move
dfosterf (15-Apr) : My wife just told the ancient Japanese sushi dude not enough rice under his fish
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I think a dozen is what I need
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Go fund me for this purpose just might work. A dozen nurses show up at 1265 to provide mental health assistance.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : The manner in which he won it was just amazing and wonderful. First blowing the lead then getting back, then blowing it. But ultimately
Zero2Cool (12-Apr) : I'm guessing since the thumb was broken, he wasn't feeling it.
dfosterf (10-Apr) : Looking for guidance. Not feeling the thumb.
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : If they knew about it or not
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : I don't recall that he did which is why I asked.
