Part 1 is over here.

These things are always a total crapshoot, especially past the 2nd round, but I thought that I'd give it a shot, anyway. Some of these picks might look more like wishfull thinking than reality, but I'm not going to go overboard. I'm going to throw some trades in there, as well.

Trade Alert!

The Texans trade the 187th and 197th pick in the 2010 draft for the Packers' 154th pick.

5th Pick (From Texans)

With the 187th pick (6st round) in the 2010 NFL draft, the Green Bay Packers select Shelley Smith, OG, Colorado.

UserPostedImage

Smith is a perfect fit for the Packers' zone blocking scheme. He's 6'3, 300 and has a lot of athletic ability. He ran a 5.03 40 in combination with 26 reps on the bench.

Someone is bound to take this rough kid in the 6th round in an attempt to get all those physical tools together and form one of the better guards in the league.

6th Pick

With the 193th pick (6th round) in the 2010 NFL draft, the Green Bay Packers select Zac Robinson, QB, Oklahoma State.

UserPostedImage

Zac Robinson is an athletic QB with the potential to eventually be a starter in this league. He doesn't have very good accuracy right now, but that's fixable. He has a good, but not great, arm, is smart and can read defenses a little. He is coming from a spread offense, so he'll need some grooming.

Work out the kinks with his accuracy and get him used to a pro-style offense and he'll be a good back-up and trade bait down the road.

7th Pick (From Texans)

With the 197th pick in the 2010 NFL draft, the Green Bay Packers select Brent Bowden, P, Virginia Tech.

UserPostedImage

Bowden has all the tools to become a succesful punter in the NFL. He had a very good senior season for Virginia Tech and should only improve when getting to the NFL.

His biggest knock is that he isn't that athletic and not much of a tackler on punt returns, but really, how many punters are?

8th Pick

With the 230th pick in the 2010 NFL draft, the Green Bay Packers select Alfonso Smith, RB, Kentucky.

UserPostedImage

When he actually got the chance ot run the ball, Alfonso has looked very mediocre during his college career. He ran the ball 214 times, averaging 4.5 YPC. In just one of his 3 seasons he went over 4.2 YPC.

The thing that makes him a 7th round pick is his Pro Day. At 6'0, 211, he ran a 4.38 40, had 19 reps on the bench and he had a "36 vertical. He has showed some soft hands and some kick and punt returning skills, as well. That will most likely get him drafted in the 7th.

Recap

1st round, 29th - Jerry Hughes, DE/OLB, TCU.
2nd round, 56th - Jared Veldheer, OT, Hillsdale.
2nd round, 61st - Andre Roberts, WR, The Citadel.
4th round, 122nd - Myron Rolle, S, Florida State.
6th round, 187th - Shelley Smith, OG, Colorado.
6th round, 193th - Zac Robinson, QB, Oklahoma State.
6th round, 197th - Brent Bowden, P, Virginia Tech.
7th round, 230th - Alfonso Smith, RB, Kentucky.

I like your picks rock - I agree with most of the selections (as far as positions) I think there could be some variences thou (obviously).

ie WR, P, and wondering if we will grab a corner

I imagine that most people would replace Andre Roberts with a CB. It just makes more sense if you just look at it.

My rationale is this, though.

Driver isn't playing forever. Nelson and Jones look like they could do a decent job (especially Jones), but I think that Ted would like another playmaker at the position. Roberts in the late 2nd would be so similar to the Jennings pick. It just makes sense to me.

At CB, we now have Woodson - Harris - Williams - Underwood - Lee - Bush - Blackmon - Bell - Ford - Clark.

Ford and Clark look like they'll be cut before the season starts. That leaves you with 8 CBs on the roster.

There's no way that Woodson, Harris or Williams gets cut. Underwood has an amazing amount of potential.

That means that you have 4 CBs on your roster, already. That's a very respectable amount and a lot of teams go into the season with just 4.

Then you have Blackmon, Lee, Bush and Bell left. Bell might be gone, as well. Bush most likely won't get cut. Lee hasn't shown what he can do and is a long shot to get cut. Blackmon is our PR/KR.

We don't have a whole lot of room left for another CB. We could make some drastic cuts, but I don't know if this is the year to go CB just yet.

Well, two OL is better than 0 or 1. :)

Only 1 before 6th round -- well, you can bet I'll be raggin in training camp if Ted Thompson follows this scenario. 🙂

I'm amazed at all the mocks that have Myron Rolle going to the Packers this year. I was pounding the drum for him last year. I will buy everyone in the chat room a round of champagne if he falls to the Packers.
