More so why Mike McCarthy was at Dez's workout.. it fit in the bookend trip of his..

But I heard Mike McCarthy gushed a "wow" at McCoy's performance.. Aaron.. met your backup. 😉 (humor)

McCarthy making quarterback circuit
By Tom Silverstein of the Journal Sentinel

Packers coach Mike McCarthy has been making the rounds at pro day workouts for some of the top quarterbacks in the 2010 draft.

On Monday, he was in attendance when Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford conducted a workout on campus in Norman, Okla. Bradford is being considered for the No. 1 pick in the draft and will be long gone before the Packers make their first pick at No. 23 overall.

On Wednesday, McCarthy was in Austin, Texas, to see Longhorns quarterback Colt McCoy during his pro day workout. McCarthy, Seattles Pete Carroll and Clevelands Eric Mangini were the only head coaches in attendance. McCoy probably wont go in the first round and could last until the third round.

Just because McCarthy was in attendance for both quarterbacks workouts doesnt mean the Packers are considering taking either one. McCarthy likes to attend quarterback workouts so he can keep notes on them for possible interest in the future.

Both quarterbacks are coming off shoulder injuries.

McCoy declared himself 100% healthy after his workout and threw 55 passes, all of which he completed, according to various media reports. Bradford completed all but one of his passes in his workout.

McCarthy said after McCoys workout that he was convinced the quarterback was healthy.

"I thought he did a very good job," McCarthy told reporters.

Asked about the different workouts McCoy and Bradford were put through, McCarthy said he got a better evaluation out of McCoys.

I thought Colt was challenged more in his workout as far as the types of throws," McCarthy said. "Sam was very accurate, but Sam's workout was very controlled. He didn't do as much movement."

McCarthy previously has spoken highly of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow, admitting that he would love a chance to develop him. He did not attend Tebow's workout on March 17.

Getting back to that game tape on Dez...

(I'm not going to rehash the part about him lying to the NCAA about his contact with me-on)

He had 17 catches in 2009. Now he looks slow at his workout. He has gained 10 lbs.

I don't want to get into it with everyone (again, lol) about weight, but this was in fact cited as a significant concern by Casserly--not dfoster---the weight thing.

So effectively you are comparing Bryant's 2008 tape to other player's 2009 tape, in the context of him being heavier and slower now.

He looked good to me in that tryout, but I just say there is some apple and orange action occurring regarding his film vs. his tryout that should be given more weight (semi-pun intended) than is being given.

I like Charles Brown. The more I see him, the more I like him. He's not much of a run blocker though. Not sure I'd take him if say Brandon Graham was on the board. In fact, I wouldn't. Depends on the situation and that was my point with the hypothetical situation. The Packers need to be prepared to have a discussion about any situation in the draft room. Now they have their info on Bryant.

As far as the rest of the group goes.

I think you have three very talented LTs. Russell Okung, Bryan Bulaga (whom I've been very high on for awhile), and Anthony Davis. Davis has character issues. He's rumored to be lazy. He may drop to the Packers. Okung is a top six pick. Bulaga is the best coached tackle in the draft. Great technician. Short arms will scare teams, but I agree he's gone by No. 23. I'd take him in the top ten.

I also like Trent Williams. I rank him as my No. 3 overall tackle actually. My concern with him is he's a great RT, but maybe just an above average LT, which is better than what GB has long-term. However, he's not comfortable on the left side. I think any team that invests a high pick in a tackle expects them to be their left tackle and I'm not sure that's where Williams ends up. That might cause him to slide. He'd be a great fit for the Packers because they could sit him a year and help him with his comfort level as a left tackle. He can also play every position along the line. Very versatile and athletic. Fits the zone scheme.

There is a good chance those four are gone by the time GB picks. If that's the case, you don't reach for a tackle like Bruce Campbell IMO. No matter how desperate GB is. Personally, I don't touch the guy in the first two rounds. Luckily Oakland will probably jump on him at eight.

WR tend to take a little more time to develop than say a OL or DB, so if we used our first rounder on a WR I wouldn't be too upset because Driver isn't getting younger and I do like Jones, but I'm not sure if he's capable of being a 2 in this league yet.

I still say draft the best player available.

If Dez doesn't have these so called "red flags"... we are talking about one of the best players in this draft.. and none of the red flags are field related.

I think back to Moss coming out.. and he had a ton more baggage.. he simply dominated.

Now, I am not saying Dez = Moss.. or that we should take him if he is there.. but there is little doubt that, barring someone else sliding, if Dez is there at 23 he likely is the best player available. Period.

Might not be the most mature or smartest player there.. but talented.. most likely.

Like it or not.. the NFL still protects its stars.. unless they completely melt down like PacMan.

Let's say Jimmy Clausen or Sam Bradford falls to us. Do we still take him?

That's why draft purely BPA is not smart. BPA from a certain pool of positions of need. That's the way to go.

If Bradford is sitting there.. you take him.. even if you have to develop him for a year.. his trade value would be greater than the 23rd pick in this draft.. heck, you could flip him draft day for better value.

Sorry to say.. Clausen won't bring that same value until he proved he was a franchise QB.. the buzz around Bradford would carry more weight.

IMO.. I like Clausen's make up.. what makes him tick more so than Bradford. He just has more work to do at this point.

Hype at this point sells though.

pretty interesting discussion ...

I havnt studied this years draft prospects like I did last year - ie much easier to see what we would pick at the 9 spot then at the 23rd spot.

I dont like us taking another good WR - like it has already been mentioned we have 4 top wrers. ie wasnt jennings out one game and didnt we do just as well with him being out?. And ya whomever said jennings struggled thats just because he was dbled and they left driver open ie hence all the awesome driver catches ...

jones and nelson (ie my order of whom is better) are not far behind driver and jennings ... and then of course there is finley whom dominated the last 1/2 of the season.

Ive seen it suggested that we might take mays at the 23rd spot - if it were between mays and dez; Id have to say dez but honestly do we really have the dough and the room for another wr ie that will probably mean we lose jones soon to another team.

I cant see the pats not taking dez if hes there thou; ie not sure what their needs are.

I enjoyed the whole discussion of the OTs. I wouldnt mind it if we grabbed one just dont know enough about the 4-6th tackles to know how they are. ie I will assume the top 3 will be off the board. Okung and bulaga (spelling?) both look Great.

packerfanoutwest (53m) : Inactives tonight for the Pack: Alexander- knee Bullard - ankle Williams - quad Walker -ankle Monk Heath
packerfanoutwest (55m) : No Jaire, but hopefully the front 7 destroys the line of scrimmage & forces Rattler into a few passes to McKinney.
packerfanoutwest (1h) : minny could be #1 seed and the Lions #5 seed
Zero2Cool (3h) : We'd have same Division and Conference records. Strength of schedule we edge them
Zero2Cool (3h) : I just checked. What tie breaker?
bboystyle (3h) : yes its possible but unlikely. If we do get the 5th, we face the NFCS winner
Zero2Cool (3h) : Ahh, ok.
bboystyle (3h) : yes due to tie breaker
Zero2Cool (3h) : I mean, unlikely, yes, but mathematically, 5th is possible by what I'm reading.
Zero2Cool (3h) : If Vikings lose out, Packers win out, Packers get 5th, right?
bboystyle (3h) : Minny isnt going to lose out so 5th seed is out of the equation. We are playing for the 6th or 7th seed which makes no difference
Mucky Tundra (4h) : beast, the ad revenue goes to the broadcast company but they gotta pay to air the game on their channel/network
beast (5h) : If we win tonight the game is still relative in terms of 5th, 6th or 7th seed... win and it's 5th or 6th, lose and it's 6th or 7th
beast (5h) : Mucky, I thought the ad revenue went to the broadcasting companies or the NFL, at least not directly
Zero2Cool (5h) : I think the revenue share is moot, isn't it? That's the CBA an Salary Cap handling that.
bboystyle (5h) : i mean game becomes irrelevant if we win tonight. Just a game where we are trying to play spoilers to Vikings chance at the #1 seed
Mucky Tundra (5h) : beast, I would guess ad revenue from more eyes watching tv
Zero2Cool (6h) : I would think it would hurt the home team because people would have to cancel last minute maybe? i dunno
beast (6h) : I agree that it's BS for fans planning on going to the game. But how does it bring in more money? I'm guessing indirectly?
packerfanoutwest (6h) : bs on flexing the game....they do it for the $$league$$, not the hometown fans
Zero2Cool (7h) : I see what you did there Mucky
Zero2Cool (7h) : dammit. 3:25pm
Zero2Cool (7h) : Packers Vikings flexed to 3:35pm
Mucky Tundra (7h) : Upon receiving the news about Luke Musgrave, I immediately fell to the ground
Mucky Tundra (7h) : Yeah baby!
Zero2Cool (7h) : LUKE MUSGRAVE PLAYING TONIGHT~!~~~~WOWHOAAOHAOAA yah
Zero2Cool (8h) : I wanna kill new QB's ... blitz the crap out of them.
beast (8h) : Barry seemed to get too conservative against new QBs, Hafley doesn't have that issue
Zero2Cool (9h) : However, we seem to struggle vs new QB's
Zero2Cool (9h) : Should be moot point, cuz Packers should win tonight.
packerfanoutwest (9h) : ok I stand corrected
Zero2Cool (10h) : Ok, yes, you are right. I see that now how they get 7th
Zero2Cool (10h) : 5th - Packers win out, Vikings lose out. Maybe?
beast (10h) : Saying no to the 6th lock.
beast (10h) : No, with the Commanders beating the Eagles, Packers could have a good chance of 6th or 7th unless the win out
Zero2Cool (10h) : I think if Packers win, they are locked 6th with chance for 5th.
beast (10h) : But it doesn't matter, as the Packers win surely win one of their remaining games
beast (10h) : This is not complex, just someone doesn't want to believe reality
beast (10h) : We already have told you... if Packers lose all their games (they won't, but if they did), and Buccaneers and Falcons win all theirs
Zero2Cool (10h) : I posted it in that Packers and 1 seed thread
Zero2Cool (10h) : I literally just said it.
packerfanoutwest (10h) : show us a scenario where Pack don't get in? bet you can't
Zero2Cool (10h) : Falcons, Buccaneers would need to win final two games.
Zero2Cool (10h) : Yes, if they win one of three, they are lock. If they lose out, they can be eliminated.
packerfanoutwest (10h) : as I just said,,gtheyh are in no matter what
Zero2Cool (10h) : Packers should get in. I just hope it's not 7th seed. Feels dirty.
packerfanoutwest (10h) : If packers lose out, no matter what, they are in
packerfanoutwest (10h) : both teams can not male the playoffs....falcon hold the tie breaker
packerfanoutwest (10h) : if bucs win out they win their division
beast (10h) : Fine, Buccaneers and Falcons can get ahead of us
