I have watched him and I've not seen him play as badly as some want it to seem like. I think some folks are way over exaggerating his mistakes. I also don't buy the whole him being slow thing, he wouldn't be as good as he is on special teams if he were that slow.

"Stevetarded" wrote:

Well I haven't said he's nearly as bad as Bush... I'm just saying he's not better than the other 3 ILBers.

And he is slower... he even ran a 4.81 40 at his pro day... now you don't have to be fast to be good but it helps... but you do have to be quick and he is... he just doesn't have the top end speed to keep up with the other with the top end speed...

again you don't need it other than if a guy is going deep and you need to keep up or to catch someone that's fast and up to speed (if you don't have a good angle)

4. Bishop - has toped the charts in both 08 and 09 preseason tackles; had some sacks and or ints also (dont know exact figure). Best blitz ILB we have. Coverage skills could be lacking since I dont remember him covering much. Perhaps he had some issues with a rb pick up if he commited to the inside and the runner went to the outside (I think I remember a play like this - IMO who wouldnt have issues with this).

So, Dulak in terms of pass-rushing he has rushed 26 times, with 1 sack. I'll admit that 26 rushes is a very small sample, so I don't think it is fair for me to draw any conclusions about his pass rush ability.

Clearly he has seen some snaps in pass coverage, where he has been targeted 22 times, and allowed 19 completions for 303 yards - an average of almost 16 yards per catch. He clearly isn't the best player in pass coverage... if you target him chances are you are going to get a completion and it is going to be for big yardage.

Solid tackler otherwise, and solid on special teams. Still, I don't think it's fair to say Dulak that he is the best blitz ILB we have, or that he is good at anything besides run D. Solid Special teams player, it seems. But I maintain he is not as good overall as any of the ILBs in front of him.

Feel free to refute that by looking at Chillars and Hawks stats at the website... I'm running short on time or I would've done it myself.

thanks for listing these out here - interesting site also.

btw the information I listed were for preseason games ie I remember what he did both 08 and 09 preseason where he got the most consistent play. And although ya its preseason but then again; players do want to make a good impression there so its not like they are not going to try.

I do agree with you on the pass coverage like I talked about - never seen him cover guys that I can remember. But I definately remember him blitzing during the preseason ie got the games still could rewatch em ...
which included run stoppage.

btw if you noticed the article above about martin - the article mentions bishop had the most ST tackles also.

I still think he needs to be on the field more ie especially with run or blitz packages. It looks like he played 39% of the snaps during week 8 of the MN game. Might rewatch that one see what I think about him in a tough game vs a tough MN frontline.

It also appears he played in 100% of the snaps during the houston game 14 in 08. Might be another interesting game to watch.

btw was able to pull up some stats on the preseason with bishop 2 INT and one FF just in preseason in 09.
and of course the most tackles.

looks like during that houston game bishop got 2 forced fumbles and 12 tackles ie dont know how those tackles compared to others but I would assume pretty good.

The MN game I talked about where he got 39% of the snaps he got 4 tackles and 1 forced fumble.

I took a look at some of his coverage stats and ya it looks like he did give up some plays. But then again we all can remember chillar doing the same thing vs MN and hes our 'best' coverage LBer.

Bishop is an aggressive tackler and forces fumbles - I know I want to see more of him on the field.

We all know how a turnover can change the game - what is it they say. If a team has a -2 turnover ratio for the game (meaning they take the ball away 2 more times then they have given it up - they are most likely to win) (ie heard some announcer say this at some point).

Great discussion here - thanks again for those stats

OK, let's take the subjectivity out of this, and compare Bishop to Chillar based on pass coverage stats from profootballfocus.com. I'll add Hawk and Barnett too-

Bishop dropped into coverage 28 times in '09 and was targeted 10 times. He gave up 7 catches for 71 yards.

Chillar dropped into coverage 195 times in '09 and was targeted 24 times. He gave up 15 catches for 167 yards.

Hawk dropped into coverage 280 times in '09 and was targeted 41 times. He gave up 32 catches for 352 yards.

Barnett dropped into coverage 496 times in '09 and was targeted 57 times. He gave up 41 catches for 307 yards.

So here's a direct PER SNAP comparison of them in coverage in '09-

Bishop was targeted 35.7% of the time he was in coverage, and gave up an average of 2.5 yards per snap spent in coverage (not per attempt or completion, but per snap).

Chillar was targeted 12.3% of the time he was in coverage, and gave up an average of 0.9 yards per snap spent in coverage.

Hawk was targeted 14.6% of the time he was in coverage, and gave up an average of 1.3 yards per snap spent in coverage.

Barnett was targeted 11.5% of the time he was in coverage, and gave up an average of 0.6 yards per snap spent in coverage.

those stats are good... but the reason he got them wasn't...

if was because he couldn't cover and his guy got open, caught the ball, and the bishop tackled him...

Bishop is a better ILB... just he's the 4th best ILB the Packers got...

(I'm not saying that happened for all of them but it happened more than two times I think for Bishop that game... also has happened to Bigby in the past... made a lot of tackles but after letting his guy get the ball)

I edited it since you copy that and I was talking about the 12 tackles not the 2 fumbles...

Which Bishop does a GREAT job getting fumbles...
