I cant think of one draft that didnt have us taking one of the OTs or lupati

is this because the mock draftees have no creativity for people later in the round? or is it true that we really will just pick the best OL guy we can get at the 23rd spot?

I know people talk about doing this trade or that trade or this pick up or that one ... like berry/haden/ etc ... but are we just dreaming here? ...

personally Im not totally set on that we will take one of these OL guys - I dont doubt well grab at least 1 in this draft its just that at the 23rd spot I think we have some options that might be better then brown/cambell/lupati

whats your take?

I think with us retaining/adding Clifton and Mark.. I think Ted will have a number of players he has targeted in the first.. combination of all positions.

If the draft breaks one way or another.. that will dictate whom we choose, or if we move from the spot.. somehow I think this will be a draft where Ted tries to stockpile a couple of picks in the first couple rounds... deep draft.

I don't think we are locked on a lineman at all costs at 23... with the roster intact for this season.. we can truly let the draft come to us.

BTW... I think we will drafting a running mate for Collins by the end of round two.. if quality is sitting there at 23.. I think that is the pick.

I've seen some CBs mocked to us, as well. It's just that there was just one spot that was absolutely abysmal during the season, so it's easy to fill that in as our nr. 1 pick if a good OT happens to fall.

OLB, S, CB, OT or a top 20 pick who's sliding in the draft are all posibilities imo.

With Clifton coming back, the Packers can probably get away with taking a 2nd or 3rd round LT, instead of reaching for a guy at 23. No point in spending a first round pick on somebody who'll sit on the bench for his entire rookie season, unless it happens to be a top 15 LT like Bulaga or Davis that falls.

I'd like to see an outside linebacker. Although I recall Michael Lombardi on the NFL Network saying that the Packers are quite happy with what Brad Jones gave them last year, so maybe the pick becomes a CB or S.

I still see us drafting Taylor Mays with #23, maybe even moving back a couple slots and taking him. The kid has unnatural physical talent and will be coached by Darren Perry and Dom Capers. If the Packers draft him, I see the Collins/Mays combo reaking havoc on teams for years to come.

A lot depends on how the draft plays out. I have a couple of scenarios in my head and Green Bay is usually selecting someone different each time. However, the best scenario is the one where they select a tackle.

Trent Williams
Bruce Campbell
Charles Brown
Taylor Mays
Mike Iupati
Maurkice Pouncey
Devin McCourty
Brandon Graham
Jerry Hughes
Jahvid Best

Those are some of the names that I think will be in play when GB is on the clock.

Seriously, you can friggin forget about Bruce Campbell, he's a lock to the Raiders. Bad film, good measurables turn Undead Al on.

Yeah I feel that way as well, but JPP also is kinda in that mold and there are some out there that believe the Raiders will take him instead. Campbell is in for a big drop if he doesn't go to Oakland though. There the only team I see selecting him in the top 20. Maybe even in the first-round.

The irony is if Campbell goes to Oakland, it'll be bad for him. He needs to go to a team where he can sit a year and have a coach make him his pet project. That more than anything will help him. In Oakland, he'll be forced right in the lineup.

OK, I don't know **** about college so help me out here. One of the Yahoo sports writers said this:

23. Green Bay Packers: G Mike Iupati, Idaho -- People who are looking at Iupati as a potential left tackle might want to take a step back, but there's no doubt that he brings a devastating combination of size, toughness, and agility to the field. Despite having some technique issues to deal with, he could start just about anywhere on Green Bay's current line and be an improvement.

Is this true? Would this guy be an upgrade anywhere on our line or just the interior? If this guy is versatile, I want him as I'm worried that one of our OTs won't play the entire season.

I don't think many teams have both their tackles that play the entire season. I would imagine that's rare, but I have no information to support that thought.

The guy is obviously very raw at T. He got his ass whooped at the Senior Bowl. If you want him at LT, you're most likely looking at a multi-year project.

I don't know if he'll ever get there in terms of pass blocking. He's a holding machine at G already and is struggling with his pass blocking technique.

If we draft this guy, I think it'll be to play guard, but he brings the versatility that our FO seems to love so much.

Thanks Rock.

OK, forget him then. The last thing I want is our season ruined by Aaron getting a season ending injury. I just hope a real OT is left at pick #23. Weirder things have happened.

Here's the thing about Iupati. He's the best guard to come out since Steve Hutchinson. You really don't want that? I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss him. He might get called for holding a lot, but he's pretty ridiculous across the board. Taking him allows the Packers to work with T.J. Lang exclusively at right tackle.

Didn't think of that, Porky.

And as for holding, is that something you think coaches can work out of him? Although not our coaches. We seem to get penalized a lot more than most teams.

One thing, though. Holding is, in some cases, hand placement, but holding is also a last resort to save your QB.

I think that most of the holding penalties we got where due to our guys getting beaten. I mean, they worked it out with Spitz pretty well. He's a very good guard and, under our coaching staff, hadn't had a holding penalty in 2008. And that's something like 1000-1100 snaps.

I think that the problem is, indeed, hand placement with Iutapi. If he's really as good as advertised (i'm still a little hestitant on his pass blocking), we can work that out easily and we'd have an elite interior O-line, immediatly, with Iutapi - Spitz - Sitton.

http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-draft/09000d5d81769a8d/First-Draft-Mike-Iupati

just seen this video - those somoans(spelling?) are supposed to have a good work ethic.

Havnt seen too many people talk about this guy lately - mostly just the OTs. But this guy was projected to us in alot of drafts.
