my thoughts ...

- a nice step up from sanders predictable 4-3
- still not enough blitzing ie take a look at the jets D and this is something I would like to see.
- nice run stoppage; we went what 25th on run stoppage to what 1st or 2nd?
- our pass coverage had some issues - but he had a tore up secondary at times ie bigby, harris and then we had inept coverage guys
- I like how we used our Lbers and corners in blitzing; although IMO we need to be better able to do some of these stunts - maybe this year our guys will have a better idea how to do these things.
- thought dom was a bit conservative at times - ie not enough blitzing and not enough pressure.
- I liked the psycho package we ran.

overall I liked the changes ... hopefully our D will be even better this year.

I thought it was ok for our 1st year, we learned what players actually will fit into the system and others i think won't. I don't see Hawk really fitting into the system he just cant get off blocks and as a middle backer you have to do that.

As far as the physco package i think that needs to be thrown out we got burnt so many times on that

Hopefully this year we see more improvement specially in the middle on pass coverage.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Pretty close to yours. We need someone else to be effective besides CM3. We simply need more sacks.

I don't fault the coverage. Heck, try covering anyone for 6 seconds. That's on the lack of a pass rush, not the coverage units. I think Dom needed to be more aggressive and attack more. Sacks often end drives.

Two big thumbs up for Dom when it comes to run coverage. We were pretty effective against the run.

Oh, don't use the psycho package more than once a game.

This year should be better all around.

Id say it went pretty well considering most were predicting a middle of the league type D the first year in transition and we were towards the top. Just wait until we get a few drafts with the 3-4 in place and see how it works out

Got the most out of the players he had in a transition year. Now, we must do a good job of identifying and procurring the players we need to eliminate our problems with spread offenses....secondary help and someone opposite CM III to apply pressure.

Holy golden nut sack is that a loaded question or what... I could write a thesis on my thoughts of our first year of the 3-4.

But for time and your all sake.. I will highlight some of the majors.

-Impressed with the defensive lines adjustment to the 3-4... mostly in the running game and chewing up blocks and taking on double teams.

- Linebackers.. pretty much what I thought.. if Hawk and Barnett stayed clean they did pretty good.. in traffic or taking on block.. same ol' same ol'. Chillar kind of disappeared except for a couple games.. CMIII was exceptional.. not just in the pass rush.. his ability to hold the edge on the defense to me was the most impressive. Kampman should have been utilized on the line or traded at the deadline (yes beat that horse again) and I thought Brad Jones held up pretty well.. needs to work on strength, fighting though the crack down blocks and develop a better sense of the pass rush and blitzing...

- Corners.. I thought the top three Woodson, Harris, and Williams did a fine job adjusting to playing some zone.. but hats off to Dom and staff for adjusting the defense to fit our strengths.. I especially liked the ability to roll Williams and Harris out wide and let Woodson play inside.. stroke of brilliance there.. while Woodson is a little better outside than Williams at this point.. the staff maxed the potential of the defense with the confidence in Williams.

- Safeties... Collins is what he is... a very instinctive player that has the physical abilities to erase his and most of the mistakes in the secondary in his side.. Bigby was disappointing more so in his health and inability to stay on the field than anything.. Collins gets nicked up a lot but is able to play through most of the time.. Bigby is the opposite and it hurts his comfort level in the defense.. makes a fair share of mistakes in angles and field awareness. Rouse was disappointing.. never adjusted to the speed of the pro game.. Bush improved in my opinion.. but it is clear to me that he is will never be a front line player on defense. Martin.. book is still open.. IMO, didn't get enough chances to give a fair evaluation..

Overall.. solid B to the overall group.. I think the coaching staff did a fantastic job in making the adjustment from start to finish.. it has a couple more teams swinging to the 3-4 with the hope of the same first year results.. I personally don't think they will approach the same results.. that speaks volumes of the job I think this group did.

I fully expect Perry to have a year two impact on the safety group..

A big step up from the last two coordinators.
Got too conservative at times.
Improvement will come as he gets better players at some positions and the whole defense gains more experience in the system.

So you guys are saying our lack or ability to blitz is the main reason why our pass coverage sucked? ... ie like why the jets pass coverage is good because their blitzes are good? ... makes sense

I thought the defense played solid in the regular season, but just fell to pieces against the Cards in the playoffs.

Other than CM3, we really had no pass rush. The Packers need another OLB that can pressure the QB. I hope Brad Jones can fill this role, but am not convinced he is the guy.

I really think Tramon Williams will beat out Al Harris as the starter opposite Woodson. The Packers have no solution for RB & TE running over the middle of the field, and this has been an ongoing dilemma for at least 7-8 seasons.

Nickle back is another weak spot that has not improved in 5 or o seasons. How is Jared Bush still on the Packers. With all the cap money GB has, they could not find 1 player in 4 years better than Bush!??!

I'm more concerned with the talent on the defense than the scheme or coach

At times yes... probably the majority of the season.. (2 Viking games for sure) but I would not sell that as the only case.

The Card game we were getting beat within 3 to 4 beats of snap.. the stacked routes and green players filling in roles... lack of someone communicating it all in the secondary was a bigger issue than the pass rush... we would have had to have the pass rush of the century and we probably would have still be late...

IMO.. we lacked a field general in that game.. hence where my lack of leadership statements are derived from.. picking up inexperienced players hurt us as well.. a veteran or two to bring off the bench was needed IMO.
