Good players without downside are usually kept. If there is a CB, DE, or Offensive Lineman that is out there with upside that the Packers might sign it usually takes awhile for them to be identified and the right offer made in the right market conditions.

I think some smaller contract guy will be signed close to the end of March. It could even be Josh Bidwell.

Yes, Ted isn't the most enthusiastic about Free Agency (or a whole lot, for that matter). But I think he's going to get Cliffy and/or Taush signed - they won't last long in this market. If cliffy doesn't like what is out there, you can see Ted definitely bringing him back on the team.


Even if all of them sign somewhere else, I still think its under. We stand to lose our starters at: LT, RT, and LOLB. We've already lost our starting punter. Our Safety depth outright stinks.

You figure Ted will realize that having some veteran competition isn't going to be the end of the world.

since clifton was a free agent and he signed with GB it was only about 18 hours

If there was a salary cap Clifton would be gone.

Look at our track record of structuring deals and one can come to the conclusion that we would have retained Clifton... but probably at a lower rate because Washington won't have been in the running.

Back to the deal structure.. we have been front loading; pay as we go type structures for a while now.. which fits into this cap less year.. stuff as much money in this year because the cap will be back.

Look at the deals signed in the first day of FA... heavy front loaded deals... teams are learning that you need to have the "real" portion of the contract needs to be front loaded so you don't get stuck late in the deal with a ton of dead money.

I think we learned our lesson on the Hawk deal.. that is the last bloated tail end deal we have coming up...
