I see our neighboring team to the West is ramping up their efforts.. what next an attack on Washington for some cash?

Maybe act as if they are a bank.. then maybe they will get some help.. ;)

Desperation setting in...

Vikings beef up lobbying crew at Minn. Capitol

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Minnesota Vikings have some new muscle at the state Capitol.

Seven lobbyists, including some with deep connections, have registered this month to work on the team's behalf. In all, the football franchise now has 10 registered lobbyists.

The Vikings want the public's help to pay for a new football stadium, although there is no formal plan in play. Lawmakers say their attention is on fixing the state budget.

The Vikings are under lease at the Metrodome through the 2011 season.

Team official Lester Bagley says the Vikings haven't had as big a Capitol presence since the 2006 session.

Among the new lobbyist are John Knapp of Winthrop and Weinstine and former Democratic state Sen. Dave Johnson of Best and Flanagan. Knapp says the team needed "some more arms and legs'' to make the rounds in case the stadium debate moves ahead.

If the Vikings can't raise enough capital to build their stadium, that implies that private investors and bankers don't consider the project a good credit risk. If these entities don't see fit to risk their money on the project, why should the taxpayers be forced to shoulder the risk for what is apparently an unprofitable business venture?

Getting back to the original point of this thread.

I would like to ask the Vikes fans on this forum how they would feel and react if the Vikes did relocate to LA?

Would you still follow them?

Would you support a new team in Minnesota if the Jags relocated there?

And if the Vikes did leave after being pushed/shoved away. Why would another teams owners think the city would be more welcoming of them?

For me if I was a Vike fan I would be totally devastated if the team left. I don't think that I could ever continue my support for the Vikes or support a replacement team. It would be like cutting off my right arm. I would become totally disallusioned with the NFL as a whole and it would take a long long time (if ever) to get over it.

I'm so glad I chose to support the Pack way back in 1983. This could never happen to us.

I would discontinue the support of the team if they were to move. It would be really suck ass. It would be on par (with me) to the moving of the Minnesota North Stars. I was attached to that team as well, but not as hard as I am to the Vikings (as I was only a kid when the Stars left Minnesota). Yes, the state and myself would welcome another team, but with some time. Look at the Wild.. There's a lot of hockey purists here in Minnesota that can't stand them, but somehow they manage to sell out the Xcel Center every game.. Since the teams inception.

I'm willing to bet that it would be the same way with an NFL team.

The big thing for me here is, who do you root for if the Vikingsl leave town and you won't get a new franchise anytime soon?

I asume that most of you have picked teams because you lived/live close to them.

And I think that that will be a big factor for your new team.

Would you ever get it over your hearth to root for the Packers? Or the Bears, who are the 2nd closest to you guys? Do you just avoid all the NFC North teams and go for the AFC North or the AFC/NFC West? Or do you ignore location all together and go with whatever team you want?

I asume that you'd turn into a Bengals fan, but that could be a toughie for quite some people.

I think "continued fandom" would in no small measure hinge on who was perceived to be "at fault" in the event that the Vikings moved.

In Baltimore, the fans blamed the owner. (He slithered out of town) They lost that fanbase.

In Minnesota, I think it's quite another matter. The Vikings are putting an excellent "product" on the field, and based on what I have seen in both the media and over at PPO, most of the "blame" for not having a new stadium seems to fall upon the economic realities, coupled with a sense that the POPULATION isn't willing to "step up", contrasted with the FANS.

If that were to hold true, I'd bet that a much higher percentage of the fanbase will continue to root for the Vikings (hopefully renamed the LA drama queens :tongue3: ) than one might think, especially the "10 percenters" that do such things as regularly post on forums-

I remember when the Senators left DC. Everyone assumed that DC would get a new baseball team, but it took decades, even when EVERY demographic study showed it made perfect sense.

My bet is if the Vikings move, Minnesota will never get another NFL franchise.

Well Rock, let me put it to you this way....
...were the Vikings move to LA, there are 30 other teams that I would even remotely consider cheering for.
That leaves one team, and it would be a cold day in hell before I would cheer for the Packers.

Putting it a little more succinctly ...
I would rather have my nuts nailed to a tree stump and then be pushed over backwards, than become a cheesehead / Packer fan.

I would then take up some obscure sport to cheer for , like...

beast (13h) : Seems like he was just pissed because he was no longer the starter
beast (13h) : Campbell is right, he's rich and he doesn't have to explain sh!t... but that attitude gives teams reasons to never sign him again.
dfosterf (22-Feb) : I have some doubt about all that
dfosterf (22-Feb) : I read De'Vondre Campbell's tweet this morning (via the New York Post) Florio says that if he invested his earnings wisely, he will be good
beast (20-Feb) : I haven't followed, but I believe he's good when healthy, just hasn't been able to stay healthy.
dfosterf (20-Feb) : Hasn"t Bosa missed more games than he has played in the last 3 years?
Mucky Tundra (19-Feb) : He hasn't been too bad when healthy but I don't feel like I ever heard much about when he is
Zero2Cool (19-Feb) : Felt like he was more interested in his body, than football. He flashed more than I expected
Zero2Cool (19-Feb) : When he was coming out, I thought he'd be flash in pan.
Mucky Tundra (19-Feb) : Joey seems so forgettable compared to his brother for some reason
Zero2Cool (19-Feb) : NFL informed teams today that the 2025 salary cap will be roughly $277.5M-$281.5M
Zero2Cool (19-Feb) : Los Angeles Chargers are likely to release DE Joey Bosa this off-season as a cap casualty, per league source.
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : If the exploit is not fixed, we'll see tons of "50 top free agents, 50 perfect NFL team fits: We picked where each should sign in March" lo

Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : It should be halted now.
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : usually spambots are trying to get traffic to shady websites filled with spyware; the two links being spammed were to the Packers website

Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : Yep. You can do that with holding down ENTER on a command in Console of browser
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : even with the rapid fire posts?
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : I'm not certain it's a bot.
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : I've got to go to work soon which is a pity because I'm enthralled by this battle between the bot and Zero
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : Yeah, I see what that did. Kind of funny.

Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : that's why it confused the hell out of me
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : Yeah, but this is taking a headline and slapping it into the Packers Talk
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : Wasnt there a time guests could post in the help forum?
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : lol good question, kind of impressed!
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : So how is a guest posting?
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : Tell them its an emergency
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : Working. Meetings.
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : Lots of fun; the spam goes back 4 or 5 pages by this point
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : I thought you'd look for yourself and put 2 and 2 together lol. I overestimated ya ;)
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : I thought Guests couldnt post?
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : And gosh that's gonna be fun to clean up! hahaa
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : Oh. Why not just say that then? Geez.
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : check the main forum, seems a spam bot is running amok
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : What?
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : Is the Packers online game "Packers Predict" now available for 2024? I can't tell
Zero2Cool (17-Feb) : Bengals planning to Franchise Tag Tamaurice Higgins
Zero2Cool (14-Feb) : Packers are hiring Luke Getsy as senior offensive assistant.
Martha Careful (12-Feb) : I would love to have them both, esp. Crosby, but either might be too expensive.
Zero2Cool (12-Feb) : Keisean Nixon is trying to get Maxx Crosby and Davante Adams lol
