I love that we're this serious about getting him back. He was a great part of our defense. Maybe the most important part.

With Raji sitting behind Pickett, though, you'd have to think that we'd at least make a phone call to, for instance, the Bills, who are switching to a 3-4. They have no one at NT at might be willing to pay up some draft picks for Pickett.

Don't think it'll happen, but I wouldn't mind it. Even if it leaves us with little depth.

I wouldn't be too suprised if they trade him. He's getting up there in age, and they might not want to commit so much money to the NT position when they have Raji.

That said, I hope he stays. I've always loved him.

Franchising Pickett should be a no-brainer.

People are REALLY overvaluing Raji. Dude may be a top-10 pick, but he was nothing more than average in his time at NT while Pickett was injured; Raji still has a ways to go to bring his play to the level of Pickett the past year.

Remember, the Packers do work to limit Pickett's snaps. He may be 32, but he has not at all shown signs of slowing down with age. I'll concede that age can creep up on a DL remarkably fast, but considering Pickett hasn't shown any sign of that, and that he plays an immensely valuable position in the 3-4 (and played it very well at that last year), you don't even think about trading the guy.

Remember: a top 5 pick means you end up having to pay a rookie player more than 7 million; would you spend a boatload of money on an unknown rookie or spend some money (be it 7 million or higher) on someone who produces well at a critical position.

You'd expect your 9th overall pick to blossom in his 2nd year, if not in his first.

Raji has a year under his belt. He has all the physical tools and instincts to play the NT in the 3-4. He's just not the smartest kid there is. He needs some time to learn the scheme. And I believe that he'll fully grasp it and play well in the 2010 season.

Nothing more than a gut feeling right now, of course.

Like you said, DTs can hit the wall very hard. He's a 32 year old who's played in every single game since joining the league. Like I said, I wouldn't mind keeping him, he's a great player and the unsung hero of this defense. Having him and Raji rotate is one hell of a luxury. But still, the chance that he'll be the next Pat Williams is very small. Odds are, we'll get another 2 years out of him. If we can net an early 2nd for him in a draft as deep as this one, I'm all for it.

You make great points Rock, and if Ted and Mike are sure that Raji is ready to be the full-time starter then you go ahead and explore trading Pickett for sure. I wonder if a second is fair value though - that'd be my concern. Pickett led all linemen on the Packers in term of tackles per snap last year, the third time he has done so in his four years here.

Also, Pickett is a guy you'd want in your locker room. Quiet, family oriented, you know he isn't going to get in trouble. Raji doesn't seem like he'd be a problem in the locker room, so maybe that works in favour of trading Pickett.

An aside, I was wrong above in stating Pickett is 32. He turned 30 the past season.... but your point about getting at most a couple of more years out of him may still be quite valid.

Makes complete sense. He was probably are one potential UFA (after Kampman got hurt) who was worth using a tag on. Glad to see the Packers want to keep him around.

Makes sense.. yet it is going to set a certain expectation in his salary.. in other words.. it is going to cost us a premium.

In addition.. if this proves to be true.. that in all probability ends Kampman's stay in Green Bay.. I think if Kampy hits the open market.. someone makes him a deal that the Packers will see as overvalued for a player that struggled to make the transition and by all appearances wasn't overly thrilled about making it either.

Yes.. they could still transition him.. but again.. I see an offer coming that the Packers decline.. but maybe in a soft year in FA...

Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.

Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I think a dozen is what I need
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Go fund me for this purpose just might work. A dozen nurses show up at 1265 to provide mental health assistance.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : The manner in which he won it was just amazing and wonderful. First blowing the lead then getting back, then blowing it. But ultimately
Zero2Cool (12-Apr) : I'm guessing since the thumb was broken, he wasn't feeling it.
dfosterf (10-Apr) : Looking for guidance. Not feeling the thumb.
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : If they knew about it or not
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : I don't recall that he did which is why I asked.
Zero2Cool (10-Apr) : Guessing they probably knew. Did he have cast or something on?
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : Did they know that at the time or was that something the realized afterwards?
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Van Ness played most of season with broken thumb
wpr (9-Apr) : yay
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Mark Murphy says Steelers likely to protect Packers game. Meaning, no Ireland
Zero2Cool (8-Apr) : Struggling to figure out what text editor options are needed and which are 'nice to have'
Mucky Tundra (8-Apr) : *CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP*
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : WR who said he'd break Xavier Worthy 40 time...and ran slower than you
Mucky Tundra (2-Apr) : Who?
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : Texas’ WR Isaiah Bond is scheduled to visit the Bills, Browns, Chiefs, Falcons, Packers and Titans starting next week.
