Two weeks of decisions set offseasons course

Posted by darrenurban

Antrel Rolle and the team have talked contract, but this close to Rolles magic date hes due that giant $4 million roster bonus next week I expect him to be released into the open market. What that means is anyones guess. The Cardinals believe Rolle would like to come back, but again, its all relative when it comes to dollars. Could the Dolphins and Miami is home for Rolle come calling for big bucks given their issues with current free safety Gibril Wilson? Might the Giants, who had all kinds of secondary issues, choose to siphon away the guy who sealed their fate this past season? Someone else?

One of the other problems in the Rolle situation: When youre talking numbers with a guy, I dont see how the Cards can want to jump him over the deal Adrian Wilson just signed last season (I wouldnt think Adrian would be all that excited about that either). Does that automatically set a ceiling for Rolle?

This guy is pretty good. He's not that physical, being a converted CB and all, but he's great in coverage and doesn't miss a lot of time. He's pretty much the anti-Bigby.

For the Packers to get him, though, we should be willing to spent a lot of money. Something that seems unlikely to me, as we still have to pay Collins.

i loved this guy coming out of miami, lost track of him once he became a cardinal. wouldn't mind signing him, though id rather not spend big money at the safety position other than on our boy nick collins

Lol. You're totally right. Feel free to edit the title, if you have some time. Antrel, Antron, Adrian. I don't know what it is about his name.

Young kid in his prime? That would be a hell of a combo if we were able to pair him with Collins in the secondary. As far as I know the Cardinals have played a 3-4 the past two seasons so having some experience there is a plus. Ted Thompson will probably inquire but will likely not be willing to sacrifice enough money as another team.

Of course Rolle did say he never wanted to play against Rodgers again.

looks like steelers safety ryan clark will hit the open market as well:

James Walker of ESPN.com reports the clock is ticking on the contract negotiations between the Pittsburgh Steelers and starting safety Ryan Clark.

Despite both sides trying to reach a middle ground, talks have been challenging as the free-agent deadline approaches Friday.

"I thought it would be a piece of cake," Clark's agent Joel Turner said. "All things now considered, it's hard to feel that way."

"It's not a situation with us where we've ever made any demands of any type that would be outrageous," Turner said. "We wouldn't ask for anything that would be considered greedy. We've not done anything that would be pretentious. We just want to be paid a fair wage for services not only rendered, but still to be."
In an interview with ESPN radio 1250 in Pittsburgh Monday, Clark reiterated Turner's statements.
"I wouldn't do that," Clark said of making high demands. "I know how much [Steelers safety] Troy [Polamalu] makes, and I know how much respect I have for Troy as a player and how much I love him as a friend. I don't see myself as Troy. I don't see myself having to get that same type of pay ... I would be a fool to do that."

at the same time we dno't seem interested:
Looking ahead: Veteran Atari Bigby had no more than a workmanlike season as the starting strong safety but based on what McCarthy said, the Packers aren't looking to replace him.

Bigby, 28, missed three games with a knee injury after missing nine games in 2008 with an ankle injury.

"If he can just get past that . . . because he's a very good communicator," McCarthy said. "The guys have a lot of confidence in him back there. Hopefully, the injury bug is past him and he can have a full off-season."

i'd add quotes to that but the edit feature on this sforum is broken

Clark to me would be a more attractive fit that Antrel Rolle..

I highly doubt Clark hits the open market.

On MM comments..

This time of year.. all comments are suspect IMO.. you can't be certain if it is true belief.. wishful thinking or an intentional comment to cast other teams adrift from our offseason plans.

PS... the edit button seems to be working just fine. As this comment is an edit.
