Oracle wins race I was wondering if there was any interest in the America's Cup race this time?
Back in the 80's I found it a fascinating race. Today I don't care about it all.
Seems that there is always a billionaire somewhere who wants to make a name for himself so he puts a group together and builds a faster boat then goes to court to force the current Cup holder to race the old technology against the newest technology.
I like the races in the old days where there were 5-8 boats on the challenger's side of the bracket and 3-4 boats in the defender's bracket and they had a tournament. Also interesting was all the crewmen that they needed. The guys as big as linemen to grind the wenches. The guys who set the sails. A tactician who looked for the bet wisp of a breeze and got the boat into it. (Perhaps blocking the breeze from the boat they were racing against.)
Now they use these mulithulled things that don't even look like sailing crafts. And the Oracle doesn't have a "real" sail anymore. The way they designed this sail it can propel the boat at the times the speed of the wind.
I guess I jsut long for the old days when a racing sail boat looked like a sail boat.
