Glazer: NFL finds replacement for head of officiating

After a long and arduous search, the NFL finally has a new head of officiating.

Sunday will mark the final game of Mike Peireira's career as head of the NFL's officiating department. After a long and arduous search, his replacement has finally been tabbed.

Carl Johnson, a current line judge, has been hired by the league to replace Peireira, FOXSports.com has learned. Peireira informed fellow league employees during a staff meeting Tuesday morning.

Johnson just completed his ninth season as a league official, and was the line judge at Super Bowl XLII in 2008 between the Giants and Patriots. On the NFL's 2009 roster of officials, the league list his current profession as a district sales manager.

A native of Thibodaux, Louisiana, Johnson played football at Thibodaux High School and baseball at Nicholls State.

Was getting sick of him coming out every week and defending obvious bad calls.

Hope the new leader has balls enough to say, yeah, we fucked up. Sorry.

This is quite the promotion for Mr. Johnson. I'm surprised they chose a line judge over a referee or someone with more than nine years of experience.
