FInally got far enough out of my brain fog and got up the courage to look at my course evals from last semester. Were, alas, pretty abysmal.

Some of the comments:

"worthless class" (multiple times)
"complete waste of time" (more than once)
"totally incompetent"
"laziest professor at (college name)" [I am slow at grading normally; but in that class I gave assignments that were particularly time-consuming to grade. I also got ripped for never returning a particular "important assignment" even though that one assignment specified that they wouldn't get individual feedback on it unless they came to my office to talk about it.'
"didn't do any economic history" [economic history class]
"I stopped playing board games when I was in grade school" [main emphasis in class was "economics as simulation" and games were all about practicing simulation, not games like Monopoly, Scrabble, or even Risk.]
"lectured all the time"
"worst class at (school name)" (more than once)

See, you're not the only ones who think my head is permanently up my ass.

You would think after a quarter century in the classroom, several thousand students, and a research agenda that for much of the last decade has focused on the needs of higher ed, and economics ed in particular, I'd have figured out how to get good evaluations.

Oh well. I didn't really expect to ever be able to make full professor anyway.

Well, it seems at least some of the comments came from students who didnt listen or lost the plot completely...

Also, when I was a student and had a bad class, I wrote far harsher reviews citing specific examples of the worthlessness of the class. If all they say is worthless without any examples to back it up, they're probably just pissy about their impending grade or being asked to actually f*cking think critically.

Wade I would have loved to take your class. I am sure you actually make them work.

I attended Northern IL. My younger brother went to a private school in WI. After I graduated I spent a weekend with him and his buddies. I looked over a couple of their tests from just an average class. I could not have answered any of the questions to any degree. They were simple 200 level.

NIU for the most part had multiple choice or T/F questions. I asked him and he said his classes were almost all essay or short answer responses. I am convinced students at his school got a heck of a lot more from their education than I got from mine.

Education is one of the things that we fight hardest to make sure we DON"T get our money's worth.

Time to channel and unleash your inner Lombardi. It'll have those little ingrate young adults Crying Crying and Puke Puke to make good grades from you.

Hey Wade....don't look at it the wrong way. You should check what the classes have posted about my brother,,,"the Professor" at Milwaukee School of Engineering. From those comments you'd think he was the worlds worst teacher..........................Well, on second thought!!!!!!
