The Packers wanted to traded back into the 1st round to draft Christian Watson. They couldn't do it so they packaged their two 2nd rounders to move up to the 34th overall pick (2nd pick in 2nd round) and selected Christian Watson. Sure, Packers could have stayed and snagged WR Alec Pierce and RB James Cook, that is true. Instead, they got a stud WR they had a round one grade on.

It blew my mind how national pundits were shredding the Packers for not using one of the two 1st rounders on WR. I suppose they could have packaged 22nd and 28th overall to get as high as 8th overall. That would have left WR Garrett Wilson (10th), WR Chris Olave (11th), WR Jameson Willians (12th), WR Jahan Dotson (16th) or WR Treylon Burks (18th). Then the Packers wouldn't have LB Quay Walker or DT Devonte Wyatt.

If we play the what if game (hey, it's the BYE week, lay off) we can bounce around hypotheticals like this. Just a few of the plethora scenarios ...

A) LB Quay Walker, DT Devonte Wyatt, WR Christian Watson
B) WR Chris Olave, WR Alec Pierce, RB James Cook
C) WR Garrett Wilson, WR Alec Pierce, RB James Cook  (probably don't draft WR Romeo Doubs in 4th)
D) LB Quay Walker, DT Devonte Wyatt, WR Alec Pierce, RB James Cook

Honestly, I think A is good, and I would probably be OK with D as well. James Cook is a damn speedster.

ANYWAY! Watson landed with Packers and the last month has made it look like the future is bright!!

We have the whole hypothetical BS out of the way. Let's talk about the rise of Christian!

It is early. And I know I am excited to see what this kid can do for the Packers in the coming weeks, months and years!

What I like best about his game to game summary is how the number of targets has increased over the past 4 weeks.

As far as the "experts" bashing Gute for not taking a WR earlier in the draft, there is a vey good reason the talking heads are working for one of the various media outlets and not sitting in the War Room for one of the 32 NFL teams. What I find so funny is almost none of them recognize that fact that they are simply not good enough to be a part of one of the many NFL franchises.

Gute also signed veteran Sammy Watkins , leaving a lot if fans crying for a real veteran wr.
Sammy may have not put up the numbers expected, go back and watch the blocks he put down on both Watsons and Dillons td runs.
There is more to running routes when playing for The Packers.

Back to Watson, I'm really looking foward to watching a healthy Watson and Daubs together the final 4 games.

Took maybe one or two games longer to emerge, according to the official plan, but I'll take it. We would shoulda coulda won 2-3 more of these games. But I agree. The future is bright!

“If you’re a Packer fan you know the best part of that game? You have found a star in Christian Watson. You have got your number one. Doubs is also good but Christian Watson it does appear you have found a one. I’m not saying he’s Stefon Diggs or Justin Jefferson,Jamar Chase but you have found your one. So now that’s interesting to me. Now if Aaron has a little run here…maybe Aaron’s like you know what we found the one we got our guy. Now that you have got a number one back, now they’ve got a number one receiver, they got a number one corner, number one star quarterback.”

This brings up an interesting set of questions.  Is Watson truly a #1 WR? Is he potentially a very very good complentary #2? How do you define WR1? IE: is it the routes they run? The number of times they are targeted? The number of times the QB looks to them on key downs such as 3rd or 4th down?

In general I don't see the boundary WR who runs more deep routes as the #1.  In general it seems to me that their job is to draw off defenders and open the middle of the field for the real WR1. The deep route doesn't have to be the slant or go routes only to be a decoy. He could run a deep slant over the middle allowing the true 1 to come in after he has cleared it out.
Along this line, AR12 seems to like going to Cobb on 3rd down. He's more of a possession receiver.
Does a true WR1 get the most targets? If so Lazard is still holding that title even if CW has gotten more in the past month.

Watson is going to grow. Next year it's possible he could become the WR1. That also may end up being Doubs. As of now I think Doubs has been used in a wider variety of routes. In the long run they are a good complement to each other.

I believe we have a thread where we attempt to define what constitutes a WR1. Spoiler, no two people agreed.

Exactly. Ergo, CW may or may not be the WR1 the Packers have been looking for. I didn't even have to read Cowherd's story.

This whole thread seems to be missing what bothered me about that draft. I would have used one of our 1st round picks on Christian Watson, probably our 1st pick. We don't know how the draft would have played out under my scenario, but there was plenty of quality in the 2nd round had we not given up our 2nd 2nd. That being said, I am more than thrilled with all 3 of our wide receivers selected in the draft. Also, don't forget Watson doesn't afford the Packers that 5th year option as a 2nd round vs 1st round pick. We'll, what about Quay Walker, we would have lost him. Many will say. I say he would have still been there, and if not, so what. We would have got a quality player there anyway.

Quay at his spot.
Watson instead of Wyatt? I'm down. DT take long time to develop and kid is my age numbers already.

Maybe taking Watson in round one triggered another run on WR that bled into day two?

As for this thread missing what bothered you. Newsflash. It wasn't started for you. Breaking news, world don't revolve around you.

Quay at his spot assumes that no one else was thinking Watson subsequent to that 1st pick. We know that after the fact, but I was trying to incorporate the thinking at the time. As to my comment regarding the thread, it did not address what bothered me. Believe it or not, newsflash, the fact that it didn't address those issues  doesn't equate to any of your perceptions of my post or me. I don't want to get into it with you, so go eat a snickers bar or some-shit, and maybe work on your etiquette, as the site owner. That  being said, what Wayne said is some seriously legitimate perspective worthy of discussion. I watched the opposing teams defenses clamp down on us when we did not bring a deep threat, and we had no answer, dating back to when MVS went down. Thanks to Watson, and Doubs when healthy, and even Toure if we can get them all on the field at the same time healthy...We present a pretty damn good wide receiver corps that threatens defenses far better than what we have had. Injuries there have murdered this season, imo. Damn.

Yikes. Personal attack? Lol, not even remotely close to any such thing. Offensive to acuse such thing. Comedy isn't found by those riding the serious train. And here I thought the emojis discerned the facetious tone. Weird snowflake world. Anyhow, that aside. I'm excited for Watson! I should not have been a dolt and traded him away!! 🤦🤦

Zero2Cool (16m) : OR maybe it was done out of spite? You don't like Redskins? Okay, we'll piss millions away with a crap name to show you we shouldn't have changed? Petty, unlikely, but that owner?
Zero2Cool (16m) : It really feels like they plucked that name hastily. Probably thought after all that time a knock-out great name woudl be picked.
wpr (26m) : I hope so. They couldn't have done much worse than the Commodores.
Zero2Cool (2h) : Commanders sale to be done shortly after Super Bowl. I wonder if they go new name?
Zero2Cool (2h) : Folks talk about the devices they'd be without, but ... nothing about wife, kids, family. People more worried about "missing out" than what they should be. People.
Zero2Cool (2h) : lol oh you actually listed electronic devices haha. I see why you thought something. I was just venting in general, but your comment ... yeah, that's the issue.
Zero2Cool (2h) : Damn, it's not THAT Greg Williams though.
Zero2Cool (2h) : But, what was the point you were making? I am curious.
Zero2Cool (2h) : Packers expected to hire Cardinals corners coach Greg Williams, per league sources.
Zero2Cool (2h) : I wasn't responding to you.
go.pack.go. (3h) : Vikings updated their defense by hiring Brian Flores as DC. Packers were like nah we like to suck
go.pack.go. (3h) : I was not making a big deal about not having his phone. You overlooked the point
civic (6h) : I enjoy his chats with Mcafee. His world is nothing like my world. He certainly a different kinda cat.
Zero2Cool (7h) : That being said, four days I would lose my shit. I'm good with 48 hours. I've also been in the hole in jail though. They left the light on.
Zero2Cool (7h) : It's kind of sad how some people cannot fathom how solitude benefits you. God forbid we be away from our phones. THE HORROR!!!
go.pack.go. (18h) : And have people drop food into your room through a hole in the door….it’s like putting yourself into solitary confinement
go.pack.go. (18h) : Rodgers is an interesting character. Not breaking news by any means. But who the hell wants to go sit in a completely dark room for 4 straight days/nights with no phone, TV, etc?
Zero2Cool (7-Feb) : Rodgers said his "not going to san fran" was indeed a joke between buddies. LIKE I TOLD YOU.
Zero2Cool (7-Feb) : Rodgers said "I am not a free agent, I'm under contract with Packers"
Mucky Tundra (7-Feb) : @FieldYates Andy Reid asked about playing in Mexico City: “The fans in Mexico were excellent. I loved every minute of it. And the food was good too. I loved the Chile Relleno.”
Zero2Cool (6-Feb) : A.J. Green announces his retirement.
dhazer (6-Feb) : I do like how Adams said his neighborhood not Mr Rodgers neighborhood lol
Zero2Cool (6-Feb) : He could have just said I really am into that Green and Gold.
Zero2Cool (6-Feb) : When he was asked about favorite colors or something, basically asking what team...
Zero2Cool (6-Feb) : It really seems Rodgers is loving the attention.
Mucky Tundra (6-Feb) : But how do we know he's not trolling when he says he's trolling with his tweets?! :P
Zero2Cool (6-Feb) : You never listen to me though
Zero2Cool (6-Feb) : Davante to reporters after the game: "I am first-team all troll so don't take none of (the tweets) too serious, but that would be a dream scenario."
Zero2Cool (2-Feb) : If you were two hours ahead of me, that means you're 4 weeks behind! Buwahahahaha
buckeyepackfan (2-Feb) : I was 2 hr ahead of you! 😂😂😂
Zero2Cool (2-Feb) : Ugh, you copy me too~!!!!!@@@!!
buckeyepackfan (2-Feb) : 😃😃
buckeyepackfan (2-Feb) : buckeyepackfan (14h) : Brady officially retires "FOR GOOD"! Aaron will definately play 1 more year. But where?
go.pack.go. (2-Feb) : I’m kinda excited to see what MM can do calling plays without Rodgers
Zero2Cool (1-Feb) : Jerry Jones said Mike McCarthy will call the plays and a version of the offenses he ran in Green Bay will be coming to Dallas.
Zero2Cool (1-Feb) : We agree. 😁
Zero2Cool (1-Feb) : lol me too man, I said it last year as well. YOU SEARCH IT BRUH!!!
dhazer (1-Feb) : But Kevin you search back and you will see I was even saying this last year and most of this year lol
Zero2Cool (1-Feb) : dhazer, thanks for reading my comments, appreciate it. care to repeat anything else I said? MR ECHO!!!!! (only teasing, work is slow, leave me alone)
dhazer (1-Feb) : Well Rodgers wont retire now as Brady just announced his retirement. As i stated Rodgers ego wont allow him to be an opening act at the HOF ceremony
Zero2Cool (1-Feb) : But yes, the location is likely because he has numerous friends in the area for Suspended Sunrise Recordings.
Zero2Cool (1-Feb) : Rodgers does not have a house in/around Nashville. He allegedly bought land.
beast (1-Feb) : Also, Rodgers already has a house around Nashville (I believe for his Music Record Business)
beast (1-Feb) : With AFC Contender will offer the most for Rodgers? Jets is the logical answer, BUT Dolphins seem to be going all in, and Titans have been interested in Rodgers and really.use an upgrade
Zero2Cool (1-Feb) : Tom Brady retires. Rodgers playing in2023. prediction
go.pack.go. (1-Feb) : Well Leonhard was offered the DC job before Barry was hired. So it’s not unrealistic
buckeyepackfan (1-Feb) : Brady officially retires "FOR GOOD"! Aaron will definately play 1 more year. But where?
beast (1-Feb) : He's only coached one place... you usually don't go straight to a coordinator job unless an owner loves you (Jeff Saturday to head coach style)
Mucky Tundra (1-Feb) : Saints get a 2023 1st rounder and a 2024 2nd rounder and give up Payton and a 2024 3rd rounder
Mucky Tundra (1-Feb) : Looks like Sean Payton is going to Denver
