First thing I thought about, as well.

The thing that's better about this package, though, is that Matthews, Peppers, Neal and Perry are, in essence, just your standard 4-man front, but with four ridiculous pass rushers. And they can rush on every play, rather than having two or three of the five DT/OLBs rush on the play like they had in the psycho package.

Then again, the psycho did bring a lot more uncertainty for opposing QBs and O-lines.

More and more teams are now utilizing pass rush personnel groups with only 1 or 2 defensive linemen on the field.

That said, that would take a whole lot of training and scheming for just one package. I reckon the normal packages might suffer because of it.

I'm happy to see unconfentional packages, regardless, and the NASCAR package is one I have very high hopes for.

The key with this package, in my opinion, is getting to the point in series where it can be used. This is not a 3rd and 3 defense with the score close. Green Bay got the offense going and the defense locked things up early and often. Panthers were put in some obvious passing situations, where the NASCAR package is best suited.

It's a smart allocation of resources for the Packers to use. Especially considering that Perry has a very good bull rush, Peppers has an assortment of pass-rush moves and techniques, and Mike Neal has great strength at the point of attack. Matthews is the most athletic of the bunch.
William Henderson didn't have to run people over. His preferred method was levitation.

The package will stay effective as long as the players on the field continue to win their one-on-one battles. The combination of making the opposing offense have to really think every down, and players executing sure does make for fun football to watch.
What I really enjoy about the package is being able to put Peppers and Matthews on the inside at times. It isn't just the tackles knowing what techniques to use against the same guy all game lone.
Kudos to Dom having a little fun with the looks he is giving. Kudos to the players getting comfortable in it and making plays. Kudos to the training staff this year keeping us healthy enough that the combination of the previous two is successful.

I still don't really get it. All it does is replace Mike Daniels who is our best interior rusher with Peppers who is better on the outside and not nearly as good inside as Daniels. Though as with anything if it works a couple times Ol' Dom is going to spend a game trying to make it our new base defense.

I hate the exotic defenses. They won't work game after game and play after play. They are the same as putting Peppers on the offense. It may work 10 out of 100 times but it is not not the best use of the resources at hand. This is the NFL guys you can fool the other team every once in a while but they have brains and expect crap like that when you try it all the time. They will have ways to counter your exotic schemes.

This isn't directed at you, WPR, just a rant that many complain about Mike McCarthy being predictable, and your comment indirectly addresses that as well. If Lang and Sitton block their guys, if Cobb gets open, it doesn't matter what Mike McCarthy calls. The same people complaining about Nascar and Julius Peppers at TE better not also be whining about Mike McCarthy supposedly being vanilla on offense.
