With all the betting and huge sums of money involved in college sports, I am beginning to wonder about the integrity of the game. Further, with some player making big money though NILs, others, at less underwritten universities, want to get their 'share' or the prize. The integrity of the game comes into question.
The latest example of my and my friends scratching out heads here in PA, was the Penn State SMU game.
The SMU quarterback on the first drive, on fourth down in the red zone, had two great options. 1. Hit a guy wide open at the goal line. 2. Run for the first down. He threw the ball brutally behind the receiver....no score....change of possession and big momentum swing.
Oh well just a bad throw from a good quarterback...it happens.
Next possession...he has a man WIDE open about 3 yards down field. He throw the ball 4 yards to his right into the arms of a PSU linebacker for a easy pick six.
We begin to wonder.
A possession (or two) later, and equally bad throw with two other receivers wide open....another pick 6.
The man was literally responsible for a 21 point swing in the first quarter....game over. I wonder what his teammates were thinking.
Anyway, one wonders about the integrity of the game....sadly
