The team signed running back Chris Brooks to the active roster.

On Tuesday, the Green Bay Packers  placed third-round rookie running back MarShawn Lloyd on the injured reserve. Lloyd injured his ankle versus the Indianapolis Colts  after dealing with a hamstring injury that sidelined him for most of the preseason. Despite Lloyd’s selection drawing praise from the likes of Nick Saban in April , his rookie season has not gone as expected, so far.


With Lloyd and longtime RB2 AJ Dillon now both on the injured reserve, Emanuel Wilson is the only experienced backup behind starter Josh Jacobs. Last week against the Indianapolis Colts, Jacobs carried the ball 32 times which was the most of any Packers player since Ryan Grant in the 2008 season. The only time a Green Bay player has ever carried the ball more times for more yards, [URL=https://stathead.com/football/player-game-finder.cgi?request=1&order_by=date&timeframe=seasons&ccomp[1]=gt&cval[1]=32&cstat[1]=rush_att&team_id=gnb]according to Stathead[/URL], was one game by Dorsey Levens against the Dallas Cowboys  in 1997.


Now, Jacobs will have even less help keeping him fresh.


In a corresponding roster move, the Packers signed running back Chris Brooks to the 53-man roster from the practice squad. Brooks was signed by Green Bay in Week 1, after Brooks was waived with an injury settlement from the Miami Dolphins  at cutdowns. Last season, as an undrafted rookie, Brooks took 19 carries for 106 yards for Miami.


Another practice squad running back, Ellis Merriweather, remains as another backfield option for the team. Merriweather was picked up in November of last season by the Packers. With Lloyd’s situation uncertain in Week 1, Merriweather was actually elevated from the practice squad for Green Bay’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles , though, Merriweather never actually took any snaps in Brazil.
