The joke, on us, was we had no one athletic enough to be a real and true spy on him, unless we had designated Matthews, which would have taken away any pass rush we had. In fairness, a real and true spy on a player like Kaepernick is not the easiest position to fill, as he is insanely talented.
We need better talent at ILB and OLB opposite Clay. Losing Nick Perry really hurt us, and I hope he returns healthy for a full, solid 2013 season. It would be smart to make sure we have another high quality OLB in addition to Perry, just to protect ourselves, and add to any rotation we might require, which we usually do.
McCarthy sending his staff down to Texas A & M for a refresher course is definitely a positive. That takes some stones in humility to do that.
