Link, but of course

Scouts and personnel men from other NFL teams were effusive in their praise for the way the Packers starting units have looked thus far in preseason.

Said Packers QB Aaron Rodgers, "It's exciting, it really is. To have the defense playing the way they are playing and then offensively to go out there and score points and capitalize on mistakes. People are going to say it is preseason and we've been downplaying it a little bit, but this is the dress rehearsal for the whole season. To be able to go out and play the way we did today, you can't help but be excited in Packer Nation."

The Packers decision to use CB Charles Woodson as a blitzer paid off with two sacks, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

Not everything went perfectly for the Packers as K Mason Crosby missed two of his three field goal attempts, although he was using a third-string holder in WR Ruvell Martin.

Although he practiced all week and traveled to Arizona, Packers LB Nick Barnett didn't play on Friday night.

Said Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt, "I'm extremely disappointed in our football team and the way we played in the first half. It's embarrassing what that football team did to us."

Cardinals RB Beanie Wells scored two touchdowns and ran for 46 yards in his first action of the preseason.

After getting four sacks during their last preseason game, the Cardinals defense didn't get to Rodgers once on Friday.

Cardinals RB/KR LaRod Stephens-Howling left the game after suffering a concussion.

Said Cardinals DT Darnell Dockett, "We came out and didn't match Green Bay's intensity and we got exactly what we deserved. We can't sit here and say it was just a preseason game. Everybody wasn't playing on the same level today."

Can't argue with that! FIRE KEN WISENHUNT!!!! Great showing last night. Our offense handled them. And our defense showed up admirably against last year's #4 offense.

Watching the replay of the game with the Cardinals TV Network was funny. They had a couple good one-liners about what the team looked like. I'll have to watch again to quote them, but it was worth every excruciating moment to watch us light their team up.

What a great game that was, some of those passes by Rodgers where on the money and into small holes.

Very true. I was kind of hoping to fly under the radar a while, but it seems as though people are starting to take notice. It's all good though...I think we got a lil somethin' somethin' for'em!

ILikeThePack's one-liners.

1. Um, was it just me, or did it seem like Rodgers was going after DRC, after he made that nice play early on? Driver, Jordy, JJ (see my next one-liner), didn't matter - Roddy burned dude with each of 'em. Cold-blooded shit, that - I like it.

2. Yeah, he learned from Favre - that zipline to Jones between DRC and the LB was totally Favre-esque - "Yeah, I can get it in there." The play where GJ got hurt was another Favre-ism - one of those passes that gets there but doesn't necessarily leave your WR in a great position if someone's looking to kick his ass (NOTE: I'm not saying the concussion's his fault - let's not go there). He's flashing a little of that vintage Favre cockiness. So far I like it, but I hope it stays like a little spice on top of his already-just-fine-thank-you stew of athleticism and headiness - like it's just that little edge he picked up from the old guy on top of what already makes him good. Just my personal take/preference.

3. I thought Sutton flashed enough in a couple plays that they might want to see what they can do about keeping him around. He looked very good and decisive in a couple of his runs, and I loved that swing pass play. No, he's not a speed burner, but he's got good football speed and he's cat-quick - he's got to be useful somehow. But:

4. A large part of why Sutton looked good (and Grant, and Wynn, and Jackson, and Lumpy) was that our OL line played, overall, very well. They were more physical and dominated those trenches on many plays. They were a little more spotty in pass protection - I'd like to see that improve. But in terms of punching people in the face and being a tough, physical OL, they looked good.

5. Damn, I love Charles Woodson. Say no more.

6. Larry Fitzgerald is a MAN - I didn't like seeing him carve us up, but I also remembered who I was watching. Yeah, you'd like to stop him, but in reality your best hope is to slow him down some. Meanwhile, I don't have a problem recognizing excellence in the enemy - that dude is just sick.

7. As with the other games, I'm troubled a bit that the D seems to let teams make hay between the 20s. There's still a disturbing lack in fundamental soundness and players being assignment-sure - it's the 3rd preseason game, though, so that's honestly to be expected. To be fair, they're farther along this curve than I would have predicted prior to the preseason - they have managed to stiffen inside the red zone for the most part, and they've sure as hell got a nose for the football and for creating mayhem. This to me means that our personnel ARE a great fit for this scheme, and as the season goes along and they continue on that soundness curve they'll just get better and better. This D will be better this year, I'm convinced of that - I'm even hopeful that it'll be good. If we can keep everything more or less together for 2010, it could be truly special. But for now, they make me a little nervous - too many seam pass completions, too many big runs.

8. As has been hashed and rehashed to death at this point, what matters in the preseason (other than injuries) is how your first team units play. Ours have been good to great in all 3 contests to this point. First Buffalo was better than Cleveland and they would be a better test. Then Buffalo and Cleveland were both crap and Arizona was going to show us what was what. Well, we demolished them too, at least for the part of the game where it at least sort of mattered. I think you see where I'm going here.

9. There's a lot to be optimistic about. There's also plenty of work still to do, but this team looks really good and ready to compete. I'm pretty stoked about that, myself.

I didn't get a chance to see the game, but reading the comments and seeing the box score, looked like another solid outing. I agree, it would have been nice to stay under the radar, but what the hell, if the media wants to make us a top dog, let them. We'll let teams chase us, just like it should be.

dfosterf (27-Aug) : Nick Nieman from Texans our 5th linebacker. Special teams signing
TheKanataThrilla (27-Aug) : Looks like we signed Clayton Tune as QB3
wpr (27-Aug) : TKT people lose their minds over QB3. Point is almost none of them are ready that's why they are on the PS and other teams don't take them.
TheKanataThrilla (27-Aug) : Unfortunately he doesn't seem ready to be an emergency QB.
TheKanataThrilla (27-Aug) : As a Canadian and a follower of Canadian University football. I am rooting for him
dfosterf (27-Aug) : I bet a lot of us will follow the Taylor Elgersma journey with interest. Personally, got a Kurt Warner vibe goin' on. I like him
TheKanataThrilla (27-Aug) : Not sure if either will be claimed though.
TheKanataThrilla (27-Aug) : Tune or Hooker would make sense
dfosterf (27-Aug) : Clayton Tune cut by the Cards? Don't know if that's the guy, we shall see
TheKanataThrilla (27-Aug) : Per Bill Huber, the Packers will not be bringing back Taylor Elgersma or Sean Clifford on the practice squad, so a new third quarterback
Mucky Tundra (27-Aug) : Schefter must have deleted his tweet
dfosterf (27-Aug) : Hopefully Jerry reaches under the seat cushions and ashtrays of his jet and scrapes up the 45 million apr and spares us further nonsense
dfosterf (27-Aug) : Have to admit the PO'd Cowboy fan videos would be fun to watch. Problem with draft picks is half their fanbase barely knows what that is
beast (27-Aug) : I think Cowboys fans are ready to get their pitch forks and burning sticks if Jerry were to trade Micah
dfosterf (27-Aug) : If Jerry traded Micah to GB, here in northern Va. they would have to quick build yet another data center to handle the internet hate traffic
Zero2Cool (27-Aug) : its signing and trades that you don't hear about, other then announced
Zero2Cool (27-Aug) : If you hear rumors about Packers sign or trade, won't happen. Not how they work
dfosterf (27-Aug) : 19 players in a contract year. Jones called loss to us worst loss in Cowboy history. Forget Parsons trade. Not happenin' Cap'n
packerfanoutwest (27-Aug) : The Packers, meanwhile, are the youngest team in the league for the third consecutive year.
dfosterf (27-Aug) : That it was darkest before the dawn in Bengals and Commanders before they got deals done
Zero2Cool (27-Aug) : what is Schefter saying?
dfosterf (27-Aug) : He was getting Dorito infusion therapy
dfosterf (27-Aug) : He's outta shape. Why, just the other day I saw him splayed out on the trainers table
