So....,if you have really good RBs already on the team, you pick another one because he SEEMS to be the best available player.
Ignoring all the positions where you suck.
Ok......so next season you hope to fill all your holes with FAs. Some you hit on (like the Smiths) and others bomb, like Graham.
Look how San Francisco ran over our defense like there was no one even there. If they don’t fix that, then next season will be a wasted year. We got lucky to be 13-3. Almost all wins were one play away from being a loss.
Think all the rest of the NFL didn’t take notes on how to destroy the Packer defense?
Personally, I think there are too many holes to be fixed. There are glaring needs. I hope Gute can get it done.
My hope is that he can do it, and make next year even better.
But there’s just so much he can do with the draft and salary cap.

WR There will be good options in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.
ILB May not be worth being taken with the 30th pick. A quick check at Walter Football shows Kenneth Murray*, ILB/OLB, Oklahoma as the number 1 ILB. He may drop into the 2nd round. The SECOND BEST ILB Jordyn Brooks, ILB, Texas Tech may go in the 4th round. #3 Anfernee Jennings, ILB/OLB, Alabama is a 3rd or 4th round value.
Sternberger may well be the TE of need.
It would be nice to add a DT but it is not imperative.
OT, More than likely they will bring Bulaga back.

Don't forget it's possible Gute picks up someone in free agency.

The Packers have needs but nothing that is critical outside of making sure they get a decent WR before Day 2 is over.

Fans are so impatient (like some Owners in the NFL lol) and think success happens over night.

We all agree it takes 3 years to evaluate a draft, right? So why the hell would you draft in 2020 the needs for 2020 when we all know you can't really evaluate the draft class for three years? It just doesn't make sense.

It is realistic to expect jumps from the 2017, 2018 and 2019 classes in 2020. That is where we should be laying down our expectations. Especially that 2017 and 2018 classes.

2017 we did not draft too well in my opinion so I am not expecting much.

Those draft classes are where we should be expecting help from in the 2020 season, not the 2020 draft class. So, if you draft the best player available AND (this is HUGE) your scouting department does a GOOD job and (another HUGE point) your coaching staff DEVELOPS that talent, you will be in good hands.

You said if we don't fix our defense then the 49ers will do it again. How do you know? You don't know what strengths the 49ers in 2020 are going to be the same as 2019. Hell, 49ers lost like 14 games in 2018 and then reached the Super Bowl in 2019. You cannot chase past failures hoping for future success.

Draft the best players available. I'm gonna beat that drum until someone convinces me it's wrong lol

Disclaimer, I suck at scouting QBs (I think most people including the professionals do).

But of the guys that might reasonable drop... I only think QB Jordan Love, MIGHT be worth a 1st rounder, or high 2nd... and Love might not be worth it, unless you think with more stability around him could get him to play to his best because he was quite inconsistent, but considering he had so many different offensive coordinators and OL changing from year to year that was to be expected to a certain degree.

But right now, I'm thinking the Packers 1st rounder will be one of the following (not in this order but)
~ ILB Queen from LSU
~ ILBOklahoma
~ OT Josh Jones
~ QB Love
~ Or one of the many many many WRs options...

X-factor if they love one of the RBs... but I think that's a much more likely surprise with the 2nd round. But wouldn't be surprised if they don't touch RB until day 3 if at all as well.

It looks like other people don't know how to evaluate QBs either. Or at the very least Love. He has moved up 21 spots in the last few weeks.

Patrick Queen is very similar. Average rank 55. High 16 low 212. Moved up 225. (I am not sure how that is possible.)

I talked about OK ILB Kenneth Murray a few posts back. He may be a 1st round option and maybe a 2nd rounder. The composite has him with an average of 28. High 9 Low 70. He moved up 3 places. He's a pretty solid tackler which I love. Of your choices he may be the best option. Especially if you consider there really isn't anyone else close to his caliber.

Josh Jones (He has to be better than the last one GB selected.) avg 50 High 16 low 166 increased 24 places.

There are 15 WR available in the top 100. And that's just this board. There's always going to be some GM who takes his own guy that no one else cared for. (There are another 12 in the next 100.)

Well....as I said previously, that’s why I’m not an NFL GM!
I don’t think I’m impatient. Heck, i “survived” through the 1970s and 80s. So I want to see “my” Packers win another Super Bowl before I’m no longer here. I’m getting nearer to the end of that race then a lot of “youngins” here. 15 years ago, I thought differently. More in the lines of what has been stated by Zero and others here. Now I guess I feel a little more desire to see a championship in the NEAR future then way down the line
So I’m more “impatient” then I was years ago.
Chalk it up to me being a geezer.

The fact you can get great talent in later rounds much like we did with Jones.

I think if you want to reach for filling holes, you do that in free agency, not the draft. So if you need a LB, you end up paying a tier 2 guy close to tier 1 money. But never draft a round 2 grade guy in round 1 because of need if you have round 1 graded players available. If you only have round 2 grade guys and you are in the first round, you try to trade back.

You develop a guy, your hard work pays off, then let him leave?
If he was towards the end of his career, then I see letting him go. But I think he has several very productive years ahead.
JMO of course.
