I, being a huge Barry Sanders fan, never really understood celebrating things that were expected of you. I mainly attribute that to making a first down or a routine tackle. Sacks, Touchdowns, Tackles for loss, I can see a little celebrating, but it seems like we see some sort of celebrating over everything. WOohoo!! I got those three yards!!! (2nd and 7 now)

Do they have to celebrate after every play?
Yes, they must celebrate after every play because it's now part of the fabric of their culture. Sometimes I get the feeling they're celebrating to let everyone know, including the coach, they really do love football. Sometimes I feel they don't even want to celebrate, they just know it's expected of them. Sometimes it looks so foolish, so contrived, it makes me laugh.

Brett Favre turned into a hero across the country because he "looked like a kid out there just having fun." ......i don't necessarily know where I was going with that. Maybe a double standard kind of thing? Maybe a how things have changed? Maybe society is way too fucking sensitive about everything now, idk. Someone take it and run

Based on your overly sensitive outburst of a response, I concur, society is way too sensitive over things, even though that has absolutely zero relevance to the topic.

This is another one of those turnoffs in the game today... some players just can't let their play speak for them on the field.

No... they are either asking for a flag or making some theatrics to scream to everyone... " Look at me" I am a snowflake.

I get it for pivotal plays, or tone setting plays... or high emotion plays... but a 2nd and 8 in the second quarter in the middle of a random drive... sit your ass down and act like you have been there before.

BTW... Packers receivers are awful for looking for flags on every incompletion.. Pet Peeve.

As a card carrying curmudgeon I hate all the theatrics. Especially on routine plays. Even Packer receivers make it out to be some kind of big event when they get a simple first down. But it is the way the game is played today.

The NFL took notice of the "No Fun League" moniker that was hung on them and in one of the very few instances, they relented. Probably was a bargaining chip they tossed on the pile during CBA sessions because they really didn't care one way or the other and they used it to get something they wanted more.

I will admit I liked seeing Reggie get excited or Gilbert Brown doing his Gravedigger routine. (At least some of the time.) Gilbert got carried away.

In the long run it's a way to pump up the team and the crowd. I still love seeing the ball carrier toss the football to the ref and trot over to the sidelines. It's a class move. Of course that eliminates the Lambeau Leap. One of the players didn't do the leap at Thursday's game and my wife was quick to ask why not. Heck it's fun to see the little squirts get lifted up and into the stands after they score during the peewee football scrimmages halftime activities. I am sure they talk about it all week at school.

You are right Pack93z that receivers are crying about PI way too much. It reminds me of all the flopping we see in FIFA.

I've never seen a player celebrate and been legitimately bothered by it unless it's guys celebrating injuring another player. I just don't care if some guy wants to do a stupid dance or whatever if you are good enough to play in the NFL and make a big play, do your thing.

Celebrating when you make a big play doesn’t bother me. But as others have already stated, making a few yards or a first down, ACT LIKE YOU HAVE BEEN THERE BEFORE.
Otherwise, to me, you look like a jerk.

dfosterf (18-Aug) : We do have good depth at running back imo. Still so frustrating. Bitching about it is a futile excercise, which I plan to do anyway.

dfosterf (13-Aug) : a lower back injury

Mucky Tundra (13-Aug) : With LVN that is; need to see what happens in the next practice

beast (12-Aug) : I believe Musgrave has been injured every single season since at least a Sophomore in highschool
packerfanoutwest (12-Aug) : Matt LaFleur: “Highly unlikely” Jordan Love plays more this preseason

beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
