Some believe the Green Bay Packers will have to dink and dunk their way to success on offense for the rest of the year. Defenses will never catch on to that.

It's not "dink and dunk." It's high percentage passing.

It works better if you can send somebody deep when the DBs start jumping routes. Also works better wih screens and traps.

We've got guys who can get deep.

It's called classic West Coast offense, which we use to run quite a bit until McCarthy implemented his home run offense. The classic west coast offense is also about controlling time of possession and keeping your defense fresh. But the biggest problems we have are red zone offense and short yardage running. We just don't have the road graders on the offensive line, and it is frustrating and amusing that McCarthy continues to try to force power running with a finesse offensive line. How arrogant and stubborn is that man anyway?

It won't hold up until they start hitting intermediate level stuff inside the numbers. Most of these plays are still either deep attempts or short/isolation stuff near the sideline. We are still rarely using slants or anything in the seam. It worked against the Bears because Davante was winning his 1 on 1s against Chicago's god awful DBs.

Until Mccarthy gets more away from the idea that his WRs have to consistently win those Iso routes against their DB the offense won't perform against a decent defense. (Though after a year of not really doing much to help WRs when they obviously aren't doing well against man coverage I don't think it will happen)

If they continue to use this approach, the safeties will have to start playing closer to the line and create opportunities down the field.

Patient playcalling made the difference against Chicago. The big gaudy plays weren't all over the hilights, but the final score is what counts.

Treat it like war (which is what football basically is).

If your opponents are mainly deep in their own territory, do you use 2-3 bring planes out there to hope they can defeat the 5-6 planes that are being used by the enemy as patrolling? No. You work methodically by taking land gradually where there are no enemies in the short ground and make them have to come closer which gives you opportunities to attack them deep.

The RB situation may force Mike to go wih a more WCO based running game.

Using Jordy in the slot should make Mike far more likely to run some slants and whatnot. Dude is strictly a possession guy right now.

I don't like the writer but its an interesting theory to debate. I think "dink and dunk" can work against most teams the Packers will face. However when the playoffs come around they better have some sort of a run game they can rely on, this won't work against an elite defense in January.

Still, by then, one of those guys to can line up outside has to step up and show they can get it done. Hnonestly, I'm more worried about the defense in the post season.

Still miss the one step drop and throw slant from Favre to whoever was WR, that ball came out so fast no lineman was able to get his hands on the passing lane. Every WR should line up in any position and run any route. Intermediate and deep routes will open up as defenses start cheating to defend the short stuff.

And Rodgers needs to stay under Center. Forcing defenses to have a man over C.

For some reason this offense has been allergic to anything inside the numbers or past 5ish yards lately.

dfosterf (19h) : We do have good depth at running back imo. Still so frustrating. Bitching about it is a futile excercise, which I plan to do anyway.

dfosterf (13-Aug) : a lower back injury
dfosterf (13-Aug) : Doubs says he's "fine" after injury scare. Some reported it as z
Mucky Tundra (13-Aug) : With LVN that is; need to see what happens in the next practice
Mucky Tundra (13-Aug) : beast, reading about what happened, it sounded like one of those "two guys collide and are moving slow afterwards" type of deals
beast (12-Aug) : I believe Musgrave has been injured every single season since at least a Sophomore in highschool
packerfanoutwest (12-Aug) : Matt LaFleur: “Highly unlikely” Jordan Love plays more this preseason
dfosterf (12-Aug) : Doubs, Savion Williams, LVN, Musgrave all banged up to one degree or another, missing one here I forget

Zero2Cool (10-Aug) : If healthy after, then thats all I care. Well, no drops would be nice

beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
