I like having assistants that have no hope of ever getting a promotion again.

He'll help us scout and prepare for Oak, Den., SD, and NE in super Bowl.

Being away for 3 years, thus having a fresh perspective and preparing for us last year, he'll provide great insight into a our self-scouting efforts.

He is an offensive genius.

Between his thinking on his own and exposure to other philosophies, he can bring in some fresh ideas to the offense, defense, STs and coaching philosophies.

lets be real here, nothing he showed after he left us backs up your claim that he is an offensive genius. that being said, i am not opposed to bringing him back.

Philbin was the Offensive Coordinator on a team where the head coach's background was offense and where that head coach called the plays, game-planned, and mostly designed the offense - Miami should have known better; Philbin is no offensive genius.

I would be all for bringing Philbin back, I just don't know in what capacity.
I believe he is a good coach but perhaps if we brought him back in an offensive capacity Clements may feel like he is being undermined, negatively affecting our offense.
I think Philbin got screwed by the Suh signing in Miami.

Philbin was the most highly qualified person who would consider that job. Not an ideal franchise for a HC.

Being a HC only served to distract Philbin's offensive genius and 100% changes his ability to reach players.

All ya gotta do is look at MM’s 6 years of offensive philosophy in SF and NO to know that something influenced him to change what he was doing. That influence was Philbin, Philbin is/was the architect the GB offense and this is why he got a HC gig.

Around 2001-2, I believed Favre’s transformation away from one of the greatest Packers of all time and the best QB in football was complete and irreparable and Sherman, Rossley, Bevell, et. el. were serving to only stoke and entrench an out of control self-important teamless ego. I had great hope that MM and Clements would reign in the supercharged ego, to no avail. I was ecstatic when the no name Jagoffizinksi was fired; but was again stunned when another Sherman hold-over loser OL coach was appointed in his place. I mean com’mon, just looking at the guy makes ya want to take his lunch money.

BUT, it was PHILBIN who reached Favre. And Clements and MM might be primarily responsible for transforming the late 1st round/early 2nd round talented AR [he was NEVER going ahead of Smith and [but for TT] Campbell] w/ footwork, arm slotting, mental approach, reading D’s, etc. into a top 5 talent; but it was PHILBIN that is responsible for AR taking the cerebral side of his game to an unprecedented level.

I'm quite content with Edgar Bennett. Sucks for Philbin right now, but at season's end there will be opportunities for him.

Philbin is not the architect of this offense, it is McCarthy. The key difference between MM time in NO and SF and his time in GB is having great QBs. And if any coach on the staff is responsible for Rodgers it would be Clements who has been Rodgers QB coach.

All this stuff coming out of Miami and even SF last year makes me appreciate how good McCarthy is with the personality aspect of the team. We never hear the negativity that comes out of other locker rooms here whenever things don't go a teams way. I think one of Mikes biggest strengths is his ability to keep the team focused and positive. I don't remember hearing bad things from the locker room even when they've had down seasons like in 06, 08, or during some of these slow starts to a season. Even in 13 when Rodgers went down the team kept fighting.

I think Rodgers said Philbin was great at getting the scout team together calling their plays to limit the #1 offense when they went against each other which bettered the #1 offense by having them play against better competition in practice.

Philbin might need a break... also he's most likely getting paid to do nothing as he getting the rest of his contract.
