I'm happy they resigned him. Seems to have some potential as a pass catcher which this team needs in the red zone.

Quarless was a hot commodity before the start of the free agency period, garnering interest from several teams, including the New York Giants and former Packers QB coach and now offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo.

However, it was the Packers who came through with the best deal, keeping Quarless anchored in Green Bay and catching passes from quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

One of the most memorable blocks ever!!!!!

I only know Quarless for 2 plays.

-the (should not have been / thank you refs) touchdown against the Vikings.

-tripping and botching the fake FG.

beyond that, I don't think I've ever seen him do anything some 6th rounder or UDFA couldn't for cheaper.

great blocker? how often is it our RB get stuffed on outside runs. better than Finley =/= great

High ceiling.

With this signing, I doubt we need anything more than a serviceable tight end, or perhaps we can allow the guys currently behind Quarless to step up, or try to.

I think the need for Tight End was magnified by Jermichael Finley - Maddeningly inconsistent, paid a ton of money for it too. I think Quarless deserves atleast a year on top of the food chain to show his worth. I think with a full off season of first team reps, he can develop good chemistry with our resident Walter White.

I also like this resigning because it eliminates the need to draft at Tight End, the same couldn't be said if we resign, say, Pickett or Raji at the DL positions.

Tight End was the one position of need I thought we could afford to be cheap with, and the deal is real friendly to say the least.

GB doesn't need a sexy TE that runs like a WR. Let the WR do the running and catching. With Lacy at and Jordy and Cobb as the WR the TE and 3rd WR are not as critical. Still with Aaron as QB he will find him if he is open and doesn't have the chance to stat whore.

Q will block some. He will catch some and earn he pay. If you don't notice him that doesn't mean he didn't do his job. It means he is not in one of the high profile positions. I can live with that.

However, having both WR-TE and a 3rd WR aren't critical, I think 1 may be. Even now with Lacy as the run option.

Especially given (i) the current quality of the defense (which requires more than merely above-average offensive ability to score points) and (ii) the current quality of the offensive line (which reduces the time Rodgers has to check different pass options).

IMO.

Will be interesting to see how Brandon Bostic developes, he's the new BIG FAST TE on The Packers roster, don't forget Ryan taylor and Jake Stoneburner will be back, considering Ted and Mikes love for TE's, looks like there is still room for 1 more.

Not bothered by this signing in any way.

And, IMO, it means another one of those late draft choices will be available to help with other needs.

(trying to be a half-full guy for a bit) [grin1]
