I've been considering writing this for a long time, since my first relatively mild criticism of Ted Thompson well before the Rodgers injury - which was greeted by a veritable firestorm of criticism and love and respect for 'Ol Ted. Recently, it seems lot of others have come around to a similar point of view, although still not a majority, I think.

I have a terrible and conspiratorial suspicion that Ted Thompson took the Packers GM job with the INTENT either on his own or as part of some dark league-pushed conspiracy or whatever to drag down the Packers. Then, by dumb luck, Aaron Rodgers came along and messed up his evil plan.

Am I being sarcastic or whatever? Maybe just a little bit, as I can hardly believe it myself, but I'm probably 75% serious.

WHY would he/they do such a thing? Oh, I don't know ..... one thought that entered my mind is that Los Angeles still is without an NFL team. Just as a team with a great basketball tradition went 6 or 7 years ago from the Heartland to a place with no lakes, maybe some elitist in the commisioner's office envisioned OUR team going to a place with no packing plants - I guess with all those people, and only 90% or so gone Vegan, they still must have some, but whatever. Maybe somebody just thought the team should move to Milwaukee, I don't know. It would never happen/will never happen unless the team got so bad that attendance and interest dropped off. I DOUBT this whole concept myself, but who knows, maybe that was Ted Thompson's dark and evil mission. It would explain a lot.

If Ted wanted to destroy the packers for what ever reason, all he had to do, was Bring Favre back sit Rodgers until he went into FA with no playing experience and let him go.

For the record:
1. You can't sell Packers shares. There is no market for them. They are non-transferable (except to family members as a gift or in the event of death).
2. There's a limit on the number of shares one person/entity is allowed to hold. Even if shares were transferable, no one would be able to consolidate ownership.

You assume because the Packers haven't signed anyone that they haven't even tried?

You assume because your monday morning qb armchair general manager instincts aren't followed up by a true GM, one of just 32 in the entire world at his profession that said GM is doing nothing?

Regardless of what some people say, you do not win the Super Bowl by accident.

Regardless of what some people say, you do hold one of the best winning percentages over the last decade by accident.

You ever watch/listen to a Ted Thompson press conference? You get NOTHING from him and you think because things aren't being leaked out that NOTHING is being done or attempted?

How many years did it take before we found out what really happened with Randy Moss? Remember so many whining about "How could the Packers not even TRY to get him?" Or how about Tony Gonzalez for that matter.

You wanna piss and moan about Ted Thompson, piss and moan about the secrecy, the impressive secrecy for our time that he and his staff maintain.

The Angel of Death went by the name of Mike Sherman. He almost got there. By the time Thompson got here the only good players on the roster were all 30 something and on the downside. You do remember Wolfe stating that a significant number of players on the roster in Sherman's last year did not belong in the NFL and sure enough most of them never did a thing.

All this AND handing the team over totally cap strapped as well.

If it weren't for Ted Thompson plus McCarthy working together this team was primed to go into a deep freeze like many clubs that were pretty darn good and disappeared for YEARS.

You had your Angel of Death alright but as incompetent as he was even Sherman couldn't run the team out of town. Thompson has more knowledge of personnel, talent, working contracts, retaining the right players, letting go the right players, and managing the cap in his little finger than Sherman ever did.

Had they kept him around even one more year this would have been worse than the 80's and taken years to field a winning team.

We got lucky grabbing Thompson when they did but this crap comes out every year during the first few days of FA. For me, I'll take the team that hits the field in May. After the draft. All day long and able to play with anybody.
