I'm sure if you asked AP during his acl injury if he WANTED to play he'd say yes...doesn't mean it's the right move. The right TEAM move is to do what's best for each player's circumstances and situation.

With Rodgers I am sure he thinks the need for him to be out there helping his team outweighs the risk of further injury and that's a feeling that players are usually going to get more than the coaches and the medical staff.

It can be a fine line, but at some point most injured players come across the line. Even though you will read that a guy is 100% recovered I am sure that the first game back always presents a little bit of risk.

Obviously he won't be cleared just because he wants to be otherwise he would have played last week. If the doctors don't feel it is safe he won't be cleared. If he was close last week, though I am not sure we heard his doctor say those words, my guess is he is cleared and he will play and I think it is the right move for the Packers to make.

My point with AP is if you ask any player if they want to play they'll say yes, but that doesn't make it the right decision for the player or team. How did rushing back work out for rg3 and the redskins, or cm3 in his first game back with the cast.

as pfwt just wrote about, this isn't some injury where you can wear some protective gear like cm3 or rg3. Some doctors with many more years of schooling and many more years of experience than you, me, MM, AR, or ESPN have said it's not safe or wise to return yet...I trust their opinion.

The only doctor that matters is the Packers doctor as I don't think all these others throwing their two cents in have seen the scans so they don't know the details. You can say he has a vested interest in getting Rodgers back out on the field but if an MVP QB and a SB winning coach can't get him to hurry along his clearance by one week I don't think you can say he isn't looking out for Rodgers. People sign out of hospitals every day against medical advice and many of them have far more serious problems than Rodgers.

In a perfect world would Rodgers be shelved? Perhaps, but this isn't a perfect world. This is the NFL and players and coaches and even to a lesser extent the doctors know that at some point risks need to be taken. If the Packers were eliminated or if they had it all locked up I'm guessing Rodgers would be sitting but that is not the case. The goal is to make the playoffs and win the Super Bowl and if taking a risk means your odds are better for that to happen 99.9% of the people involved will take those risks. It is up to the player, the coaches, and the doctors to decide what risks are too much. It is not up to us

This will feed into my point below, but I'm assuming that risk was assessed and determined he'd be fine to return. With that said, wearing the club was obviously significantly restricting his effectiveness that first game back.

Texas' initial point (I'm not saying you're saying this) was that he should just play on because he has all offseason to recover. We saw with D.D. and Woodson in the Superbowl where they didn't return. Admittedly that's a bit of a stretch because it was a "fresh" injury, but point being you don't assess the injury solely based on a looming offseasonto recover or the stakes of the game(s) you're in. If there's a high risk of re-injury, or an unlikeliness that you'll be effective, you don't play him. I'm 100% confident that both of these scenarios are being tediously considered with A.R. right now.
