I hate the bye being in week 4.
My games are Detroit and Phillie. Both are Sunday noon games. That is good for me. The Thursday, Sunday and Monday nite games are real killers for me. 3 pm (now 3:25) kickoff isn't a lot better.

I suppose a 3:25 game would be OK too, especially if you had to travel or had to work Monday. The noon games I went to were OK but we had to drive 3 hours so there was not much time for tailgating.

Opening with the Niners is perfect to me.. litmus test right out of the gate.. if Mike McCarthy wants to show that this is a physical team.. perfect game in which to do so.

Contender or pretender right away.. even if we don't win the game we will know much about the state of the Packers in 2013 and where they need to improve upon as the season develops.

I noticed that too. I wonder why the change. They went to that format to keep teams from "throwing" the last game or two of the season. I guess that means it didn't work or NFL Corp doesn't care any more.

It looks like week 17 is all divisional games.

A couple of years ago the starters were going to play one series. Aaron Rodgers threw a TD on the first play of the game then sat out the rest of the game with all the rest of the offense. We were delayed by construction traffic and an accident so we were in the parking lot when we heard the crowd roar.

It is a 4 hour trip for us and I try to be at the office on Monday mornings.

When my wife is with me we do stay over nite. Either after the game if it is a late one or the nite before for a traditional noon kickoff.
When it is my son we drive up and right back. That is a 6 hour trip for me because I have to go into Chicago to pick him up and drop him off.
For Monday and Thur games I try and work until noon before I leave. it makes it a little easier for my secretary.

If I stay over night on Saturday my wife and I can walk around a little before the game otherwise it is just too difficult for me to get there early enough to do that too and then drive back home.

"The game will mark just the second time in McCarthy’s tenure that the Packers will open on the road. The only other time came in 2010 – a 27-20 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. That season ended with a 31-25 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLV."

"an odd quirk will see them not play back-to-back road games for the first time since 1921"

It does seem like they toned down the divisional thing a bit in weeks 15 and 16 but it looks like they maybe went more for game that may mean something in the standings rather than a first place last place in the divisional thing. I noticed a few of the bottom rung teams who may be fighting for the #1 pick are playing each other in those weeks.

I think facing the team that ended your Super Bowl aspirations is great to have as the first game. You can easily use that as a tool of motivation during Training Camp and pre-season. Get better to beat the 49ers and then proceed onward to the real goals. Division Championship, Home Field Advantage and Super Bowl victory.
