Erik Walden was suspended because he violated the NFL's personal-conduct policy. He can participate in all preseason practices and games. He's eligible to return on September 10.

On the radio, they had some strong words against Roger Goodell. This suspension is from the Thanksgiving incident that I believe he was found not guilty of. Maybe he was found innocent. I'm not sure.

Edit, the case is still open. Open - Deferred judgt./prosecute

I don't care for Goodell as commissioner. He's a phoney.

However, since the NFL is not the criminal justice system, it isn't their job to punish people for their crimes. It is their job to enforce a personal conduct policy that protects the reputation of the league. So getting dragged into court because you "may" have hit your girl, is detrimental to the league. Regardless of what the courts say.

What happens to a player in court doesn't have any bearing on if the player breached his contract to stay out of trouble.

Walden gets cut so the suspension won't matter.

If the player confronts his girlfriend who he found out was cheating on him, says hey we are over, I'm moving on, I need you to pack your things. What do you think her reaction is going to be? Do you think women never cry wolf and claim the man hit them to get back at them? But hey, you were brought to court so you should lose paychecks!

It's idiotic to have one man control so much. The NFL dropped the ball on this policy and its ignorant methods of enforcing it.

How can anybody say the decision was wrong without knowing anything that went into it?

Goodell is not without accountability. He was hired by the owners of the league. If he doesn't do his job to their satisfaction, he is gone.

The Players signed a contract with the league that stipulates what the penalty is for getting into trouble.

If they feel they have no alternative but to break the rules, they should accept it as part of the consequences of their actions and move on. If they feel that the punishment is not worth breaking the rules, don't break them. But the potential consequences should be part of a decision of whether or not to break the rules.

I can't stand it when people get caught and then whine about the unfair punishment. The punishment is supposed to make it not worth breaking the rules.

I heard someone say that you should understand the rules well enough to know when to break them. I thought it was the stupidest most self serving thing ever. You should understand the rules well enough to know when getting caught breaking them is still worth it. Or you shouldn't break them.
