I hope this writer is a also a good fortune teller. We have potential, as mentioned LT=?

Clearly short yardage isn't the main criteria.

Agreed. I don't see how anyone could say we have a better OL than the Pats. Tom Brady whips out his Paul Mitchell hair product collection, then mousses and styles his hair, then makes a vogue pose for the photographers before looking for an open receiver.

I'd say at least with the Packers offensive line we have 4 of the 5 positions locked down with proven players. Newhouse showed a little something last season as it progressed.

"Please keep in mind that we are attempting to project here, not making grades based strictly on yesteryear performance."

Sure hope he is right here, but have my doubts.

Packers end the season with the best O-line in the NFL and they should go 13-3 and be heading to The Superbowl.

I currently have them at 9-7, main reason is the ? on the O-line.

Sure, we may be starting Newhouse again, but we did that for the majority of the season last year in route to a 15-1 season. At worst, one would have to think he would at least stay the same if not improve. Or perhaps Sherrord is healthy and takes over as a decent starter next season. Left tackle doesn't seem like a huge question mark to me at all, just the weakest position on an otherwise 'decent' offensive line. Yeah, maybe we have to keep a tight end on the left or chip with the RB/FB the majority of the time, but that's not the end of the world. They've done it before and will continue to do so. I see the offensive line being better than next season unless we have some serious injuries. Overall, I still think they will be average as a unit, but that's enough for the Packer's to compete for the Super Bowl and win the division. Having two borderline starters and perhaps a rookie LT tackle that can provide solid depth is a situation many teams would gladly accept.

Right now, Newhouse will have a leg up on Sherrod (<--see what I did there?) because he will be able to participate in OTAs, while I believe Sherrod is still in rehab or recovery.

Packers played with this ? last season too and their record turned out pretty nice...

I agree doddpower. This is going to be a pretty good OL. While there is a lot to prove with LT and C positions, I do feel that Marshall Newhouse will be much improved heading into this season. He may prove difficult for anyone to supplant with any kind of natural progression coming in as the starter year 2.

Jeff Saturday will have a minimal learning curve being on a new team, with new plays and personnel around him, but that should not have too much of an adverse effect on the veteran's play. I think it is way too early to consider this OL amongst the best, with those two positions in a kind of flux. However, they have huge potential, and could very well be considered one of the best near season's end if all goes well. Figure, Saturday could turn out to be better than Wells. With Newhouse getting more experience, he should be a better player at LT. That would make for a pretty damn good line.

Sherrod seems to be coming along well in his rehab. Tough injury to sustain, but encouraging noise from McCarthy on his progress. We'll see. I also like some of the kids we landed to possibly add to this group end of draft and UDFA.

G-Force, that was amazing! [grin1]

For years I complained that our line was at best "serviceable".

Our line now is better than serviceable.

It's far from a "great" line, however.

Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?

dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
