I would say I'd rather overpay Jennings than Finley.

That said, I would have rather marginally overpaid Jackson than either of those two. If Ted brings Jennings back, Finley will be gone and our WR corps could remain intact for at least one more year, as Jones will be up again next season. It is an interesting dilemma.

I agree about Jennings over Finley, but I'm thinking increasingly we may retain Jennings without overpaying - at least not if $6-7 million a year isn't considered overpaying. As for Finley, if we could replace him with a big dependable possession TE, I wouldn't mind at all seeing him gone, even without much compensation. If he would restructure favorably to the team, fine, but that is doubtful. The worst thing would be to pay him the big chunk by end of March and take the big cap hit.

I hope he goes to the Vikings just to read Jennings' sister's tweets about how Ponder doesn't give the ball to Greg enough.

Truthfully, Ponder can play really well as evidenced by the last game of the season. If AP is dominant then Ponder will have plenty of open throwing lanes. Rudolph was his only legitimate target last year. Ponder might actually do well with two legitimate targets.

Gee, another "what the heck did you expect" article from Packersnews.com. Are they surprised that Jones didn't say "Of course he is still available, he sucks, nobody in their right mind would pay that guy a dime"

thanks 1 user applaud's sschind for this useful post.

Am I the only one who thinks we can trade Finley? The Ravens traded Boldin for a 6th round...I am sure the Packers can find a buyer for a 3-4th round with "all that potential" he possesses.

On subject, I'm shocked Jennings is still on the market as well, but then again I am not since he set the money bar for himself way too high. I see the Vikings overpaying him and its okay if he goes there. Have fun with Ponder throwing you the ball and no supporting cast other than Kyle Rudolph (at the moment).

If signing Jennings is going to prevent us from keeping someone like James Jones in the future, I'd pass as well.

Unless he re-obtains the dropsies I'd rather keep Finley on a 1 or 2 year deal than trade him for what would likely be a 4th rounder. And if he ups his game and becomes a cap issue, we're that much more likely to get a better pick for him.

Hey, I'm all for just releasing him, but if they can find a trading partner, why not? I think that is a tall order though to find a trading partner, with a 2013 salary of nearly $9M. I think he gets cut.

Jones seemed happy in one interview when the talk of Driver and Jennings being gone. Because he's going to get more playing time and passes his way. And he's going into a contract year after scoring 14 TD last year. He's going to be 29 next season.... if he has another very good season someone is probably going to over pay.

From the rumors Jennings is now expected to get some where between $7 and $8 million per season (because people think he's get a million or two more per season than Welker and Danny A.

Signing Jennings for that (if he can stay healthy) might be worth more than playing Jones 6 million a season... and we get them both for a season. Make Jennings contract so if he misses games he gets less money per game missed. Might work.

Just don't know how hard it would be to resign Jones next season...

Jennings is a Queen now. At least that speculation is over.

Quote:
That’s a great deal for a wideout who will turn 30 in September, except for one thing.

The Packers offered him more.

As we noted Wednesday (it only seemed like two weeks ago), the Packers offered a deal worth “roughly $10 million a year,” according to Jason Wilde of ESPNWisconsin.com.

That offer was made “a while ago,” according to Wilde, or more accurately, at a time when Jennings thought he could do better.

But with a generally soft market for all free agents (except the ones that sign with the Dolphins or Titans), that wasn’t coming.

So Jennings comes in with an average per year (such that it matters) of $9.5 million, which he might have been able to top if he hadn’t insisted on seeing what the market would bear.

If by insisting on seeing what the market would bear he meant insisting on getting the hell out of GB, then spot on. =D

Chile, please.

Take your ecstasy to finally landing a real character guy on over to PPO. Maybe he can help with bail money for the rest of his new team now that he has his big pay-day.

Son, you done lost yo mind. AP = Character guy. Ponder = Character guy.. And much to DakotaT's chagrin, Allen = Character guy.

$9.5 mil is chump change compared to many other WRs out there..
