At first blush, some will say that running back Steven Jackson erred when he chose to walk away from one year and $7 million in St. Louis to make, according to D. I don't feel bad the Packers didn't match that.

Same here. The ironic thing is that Atlanta probably will not be better/lucky to be as good with Jackson as they were with Turner. I think we will fill the RB position in house, and we will be just as well off that way.

I was thinking $3M max per year for 3 years. Atlanta overpaid, and I'm not going lose any sleep. Tomorrow we'll lose Jennings too, and again, I won't lose any sleep over it. On to the draft.

We need to have a good draft with some immediate help at RBPray

IMO, Grant's 8-game stretch (+1) in 07 was the last time we had a good running game... That was 6 years ago.. I just can't take it anymore Suicide

A RB is more apt to hit stride in the draft, than most other positions.

$4M per for 3 is not overpaying per se, when considering one of Finley's years could have more than paid for two of Jackson's. Penny wise. Pound foolish.

$4 per year for a RB who will turn 30 in July that is not named Barry Sanders is absolutely overpaying. Jermichael Finley is a better value at $8 million a year than Steven Jackson at $4.

However, and this might come off confusing ... lol ... I would rather Jackson at $4 million in 2013 than Finley at $8 million in 2013. My problem comes with Jackson in 2014 and 15 being given $8 million over those two years, where Finley can be unsigned and no longer is a cost. He does provide a weapon and he does open things up for other WR.

If it meant winning a SB in 2013, I wouldn't care about what is considered a $1M overpay in the following two years of the deal.

So, figure for essentially $2M in savings over a 3 year period we allowed an NFC rival to get much stronger, while our own position remains unimproved and static.

But, we still have Finley, who requires weekly night time meetings with his QB prior to game day just to try to be on the same page.
