Very, very long.

I wish I would have had you as my stats instructor. The Prof would get the answer to a quiz question wrong from time to time. When the students (about 70% of them) showed her the correct answer she would just shrug and say "it is only worth 1 point so it doesn't matter." At the very least we expected her to throw the question out. At best give both answers full credit. I kept track. She got the wrong answer to our weekly tests about 4 or 5 times in the semester. TWICE!

(I was stupid enough to sign up for her class fall term as a JR and Spring term my senior year. I had forgotten who she was the 2nd time. As a commuter I tried to stack all my classes together and put them as early as possible in the day so I could get to work in the afternoon.)

Anyway 5 points could have made the difference between a C+ and a B- or a B+ and an A- so I watched. Alas it didn't matter both times I ended up with a middle B and 5 points more would not have changed my grade at all.

It is a shame when the prof can't admit an error and do what is best for the students. She was about 2 years away from retirement and didn't want to make any effort at all.

Wade, I congratulate you on setting off a discussion that has evolved in a lot of good interesting and fun ways. As for your original poll, as I said in my original post, it was FLAWED because you made a FLAWED assumption - and a kinda elitist assumption at that - that there was WRONG in your two original choices. While literally, that may have been true, your poll made the implication that evil was not evil and calling evil "evil" was somehow wrong. That being the case, you got a lot of unintended consequences - but it's all good - nice fun discussion hahahaha.

Those damn professors have too much power and autonomy. I remember my first semester of my freshman year at U. of Wis. in Madtown, as it was but wasn't called then. I had a B+ in Poli Sci going into an essay final exam that counted 30%. I naively wrote an eloquent defense of Joe McCarthy. The asshole dropped my B+ to a D for the course, which I don't think was even mathematically possible.

Profs Sick (Wade not included.)

Business Law- The Assoc Prof. Said there are 3 answers. The right one, the wrong one and MINE. Choose mine. He out right lied to use. Back in 1980 he said if Iowa made the final for he has his course partner would treat all the Business Law classes that they taught to a party at their expense. IA made it but then lost to Louisville in the semis and Purdue in the third place game. (I had to look it up.) The profs were so disappointed they came up with some lame excuse as to why they didn't have to keep their word.

Philosophy- I think back on page 1 I mentioned how he had these crazy ideas on how it was ok to kill/murder one person if the act allowed 100 people to live. Never got along with the idiot. And he ridiculed anyone who stood up to him.

Computer programing- This was back in the days of making punch cards in FORTRAN language. He had no personality at all. He leaned against the blackboard and spoke in a monotone voice regurgitating HIS book that he had to use for our text book. (The number of times I had to buy a prof textbook is criminal.) I was total lost in the class and he would not help explain the process other than to recite what he said in class time.

The list goes on but after 35 years the memory fails a bit.
