RFAs are offered different tenders depending on how much the team want to keep them.

We can slap a 1st and 3rd round tender on any of our free agents which would pay them around $3.5m for the season. But any team that wanted them would have to give us a 1st and 3rd round pick in return.

Other tender options include a 1st round tender, a 2nd round tender (at lower salary rates) and the lowest would see any compensation match the round in which the player is picked.

For Jolly (6th I think) and Collins(2nd) that won't be much help because teams would be happy to snap them up for that. I can see Collins getting the 1st and 3rd and Jolly getting at least the 2nd.

Colledge though is understandably pissed because we can probably give him the low tender and know any team willing to offer him a contract will have to cough up a 2nd rounder for him. Possibly more than he's worth.

I can see us retaining all three, most likely with new long term deals.

Pickett was the one potential UFA who I'm glad we probably won't let get away and are at least trying to retain. He's probably the one player out there we had who would have been worth franchising if a deal didn't get done. (and it still may not) Kampman obviously would have been the other had he not torn his ACL. Packers are probably going to let him test the FA waters and see what kind of market is out there for him before thinking about investing more money into him.

I fully expect the uncapped year to happen at this point. Owners want cut payroll back and can do so easily with no salary floor. Colledge and Spitz will probably be minimum tenders next year due to their draft positions. Bigby, Jolly, and Williams will all at least receive second round tenders. With Collins, he will be a maximum tender. (1st and 3rd) With the season he's having and the 3 million he's making on the final year of his rookie deal, he sure isn't going to want to take any less money.

That's for sure. He's going to want crazy money. Like Jed Clampett money.

Colledge to me is backup quality. Serviceable. That's all. And IMO that's not sufficient. :horse:

Barring a super bowl victory this year (which is the ultimate "STFU about the OL, Wade" argument), I will be seriously grumpy if I perceive Ted Thompson as limiting himself to, what was Lynn_Dickey's term, "semi-good" OL out of fear of overspending. I don't want "semi-good on the OL anymore. I want all 5 starters between "good" and "dominant". I want a team where the only place for Daryn Colledge/Jason Spitz-level players is "backup/depth".

:horse: :horse:

And I'll be seriously upset if the Packers take a "well, we got B J Raji, so Pickett can be lost" approach. A 3-4 team needs more than one good NT, and they do not grow on trees.

The problem is that usually only semi-good LTs are available. I'm just being realistic. Heck, if we can get a great one I'm all for paying big bucks.

Great left tackles hardly ever become available in free agency.

That is even less likely in a year when over 200 would be free agents are restricted and teams have extra tags to keep those few UFA away from the open market.

Add in the fact that if we make the final 8 or the final 4 we'll be restricted in how many free agents we can sign.

Clifton may end up being the best free agent LT available this year.

The few mediocre scraps that are allowed to test the market will be picked up by the usual suspects who will over pay even more than usual.

So it's pretty much a done deal ... A. Kamp last season as a packers.

Priority re-signings: Pickett and Collins
Important signings: Bigby - John Kuhn - Spitz

Let Jolly and Kamp walk for whatever they could get and draft a replaement for both so we can invest money elsewhere.

There is no way they let Jolly walk. He's been one of the keys to our #1 rush D, he's young and will come cheap. We can give him a RFA tender and keep him for another year. We've invested time and money (and a draft pick) in him and you suggest we get rid of him just as he's starting to play his best football?

In an uncapped year keeping RFAs like Jolly is a no brainer.

No matter how much you say something, people will be confused. I've been saying the same stuff over and over. RFAs are likely safe, because nobody is going to give up a first and a third or a first for guys like Jolly and Collins. The only concern would be a Collins holdout or a Jolly suspension due to his legal problems.

Right now, Pickett seems likely to return, which is good news. I have a hard time believing they won't get a deal done within the next two months. It's probably all on Pickett.

Clifton, Tauscher, and Kampman are the wild cards. Remember, Green Bay can franchise and transition a guy this season, so a lot of these guys have a chance to be back next year.
