Wow, I am absolutely shocked at how many people think that all of those were pass interference. I do remember one clear one on Williams that was missed. However, that sort of jostling happens on just about every long ball. The two called on Williams in the end zone should not have been called as well as at least two called on Ravens defenders. The first time Williams was called in the end zone he never impeded the receivers run, never slowed him down, and played the ball when it came in getting a piece of it. The second time he was called in the end zone both the receiver and Williams were jockying for position, so if you're going to be nit picky it's interference on both. I also thought the offensive pass interference called on Mason was harsh.

You neglected to mention that in addition to jostling and jockeying for position, Williams very deliberately stuck his arm in front of the receiver's arm, well before the ball arrived, in order to prevent the receiver from reaching up for the ball with both hands. If that was legal, DB's would do it at every opportunity.

The offensive pass interference on Mason was about as obvious as they come, in my opinion. When two players are running at high speed and the ball is thrown behind them, it does not take much for one of them to push the other one out of position. You could see Mason extend his arm when he pushed Woodson. Easy call for the officials.

Greg,.....i didn't see it as that obvious. I saw it that Mason was trying to go to the ball, and Woody was in the way. I think if Mason would have just let Woody go, he could have caught the ball without even touching Woody.
Don't get me wrong, I'm GLAD the refs saw it your way. The replay just made me wonder. Doesn't the WR have a right to go after the ball? Even if the other guy is in the way?

I did see alot of plays where Williams was wrapping up one arm of the receiver. He needs to address that or we are going to be in trouble.

The Woodson call was close since he might have been falling on his own but Mason's actions definitely make it look like he helped in pushing him down.

Given the number of PI calls, I am glad that we faced the Ravens who also are notorious for penalties. It is no surprise to me that the two most penalized teams were bale to rack alot of penalty yards with many of those due to PI.

On Baltimore Radio this morning they where wining about all the penalties.

The way I remember it, Mason had to come back for the ball and he gave Woodson a little shove to clear him out of the way. In the NBA, it's always a foul call when a player extends his arm like that and makes contact with the other player. I saw this as very similar.

I agree that Mason did not have to do it. It was a dumb play by him.

Mason actually put his arm around Woody's waist and pulled Woody on past him. Mason used Woody to break his own momentum and get back to where the ball was going to be and also to get Woodson out of the way. Kind of like a swimmer kicking off the wall at the turn. I am fairly sure that is not allowed in the NFL.

Most of the calls against both teams were legit, but some I really didn't agree with. That being said, they still need to play a cleaner game and shed some of these unnecessary penalties.

As mentioned above, Clifton gets too trigger happy, and I get irritated seeing Crosby miss his FGs. These 2 things alone can make all the difference in close games. If you need the FG to win, your kicker MUST make it! On a 3rd and short, a false start can make the difference between a simple run and a risky passing situation.

As for good things, I thought Rodgers had a decent game. On that first pick, at least he didn't give them the ball with good field position (although still a poor choice imo.) The OL has done a much better job in recent games as far as protection. Aside from penalties, pass protection was good. At least with those penalties you know they are being agressive rather than passive.

With the above said, I have seen much improvement this part of the season, and look forward to more victories!

wrong thread for this but the missed FG was not Crosby fault. Replay showed how poorly of a job the holder Flynn did. The ball slipped out of his hands and onto his arm. When he got a hold of it again and set it down he had the ball on a bad angle. I am sure all of this messed up Crosby's timing too as he had to slow down his approach to the ball.

Both teams had a questionable call or two against them. We got away with a big one. Overall, I think it was called too tight at some parts. I have to admit that I actually got quite pissed that they called Tramon for holding in the end zone the second time. I know, you can call that one, but c'mon. The receiver wasn't coming off squeeky clean there, either.

It was pretty obvious that they where going for Tramon. Maybe they saw something. And, of course, you don't want to throw it to Woodson's area.

Most calls where ok. And that's pretty sad.

it was frustrating when these calls were made, but i'm glad it wasn't one sided tramon needs to watch the film on this and see where he can improve, with the holds but he came through for us and its a win good game .

Tramon needs to focus on how to keep his check arm out there to feel the receiver without locking down the trail arm of the receiver.. I like the fact that he is turning to see the ball in.. he just needs to adjust the position of his arm.. a savvy receiver will use that by dragging is arms up as he is keeping space.. when a CB has that tight of coverage (in his boots) the receiver will look for a bailout as well.

Tramon keeps his arm on the backside of the receiver instead of the front and half of that contact is eliminated.

This can be argued all day, but the posters that are bringing up the dreaded Ahmad Carrol analogy are correct, imo.

That may or may not be a fair comparison, but it was pretty obvious to me that Ahmad had an established PI reputation, and Tramon is establishing himself in much the same way, rightly or wrongly.

It is my speculation that ref crews "scout" for certain proclivities in teams/players, as do opposing teams. Further, if I were on the coaching staff of an opponent's team, I would make it my business to ensure that the ref crew was made fully aware of a Tramon Williams and his PI tendencies.

I say he is a target of both opposing teams and refs going forward.

I worry about this even more because we have a HC that doesn't see what I see, at least in many of his public pronouncements on the issue. It isn't like he has a choice, because I don't have any idea what he could possibly do about it personnel-wise, but it would be nice if we (the fans) got a loud and clear message that he (MM) is going to try and fix it.

Instead, historically what we have got is a sort of "boys will be boys" speech from him. That might be the effect of our style of defense, and the equity of all those calls is debatable, but the reality is that this league has tilted towards the offense to an unfortunate (imo) degree, and those calls are going to be made.

One positive outcome of last night's horrific number of penalties was the commentary by the announcers that this shit is getting relatively ridiculous. HOPEFULLY, someone from the league took note of that sentiment, and they (hopefully) will "cut back on the ticky tack".

I don't think we can plan for that. We are lucky the Ravens are as stupid as us. :thumbleft:
