I hope they shut down Forte and watch the TE play. We seem to get killed by dink and dunk. I don't think Hester is much of a receiver. Yeah, the guy is fast but I think our secondary can more than handle him. I do think it's the Packers' game to lose, but I also think it will be a close one.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/picks  At the time of this post it is unanimous without Mort's input.

edit: Also, I wouldn't mind seeing McCarthy running up a big lead on them. 17-20 points if possible. Of course I'm not comfortable unless we're up by 42.

If mccarthy learns to run up the score this season i will be amazed. usually he shuts it down when we're up by 2 td's.

how does all of espn pick us to beat the bears then put the bears ahead of us on the power rankings? some shit just doesnt make sense.

I'm loving the over optimism on here but let's face it , anything can happen. I think thye Packers will win based on Rodgers ability in the passing game and the Bears secondary concerns as their best CB probably won't even play. I think GB's biggest concern should be Matt Forte(whoever said that he's overrated needs to go back to football school, I don't hear anybody annointing him to AP status, he is what he is) and the Bears Special teams and ability of their defense to force turnovers despite how weak their secondary may be. I picked the Bears in an earlier thread a few weeks back but I'm changin my prediction, Packers will split with the Bears this season and win this one 27-17, but then again, I have been known to be wrong from time to time. Good luck to the Packers on Sunday.

An interesting argument from David Haugh at the Chicago Tribune:

Who's the better QB?

Who's better? Which young quarterback would you choose if you were starting an NFL franchise tomorrow? Objectively, you would have to be wearing a cheddar chapeau to say Rodgers.

Cutler has more NFL starts, entering his third full season in charge, and that larger body of work gives him the edge. That's not provincialism as much as conventional wisdom around the league. In the NFL, experience wins more than the Patriots.

99% of us here wear a "cheddar chapeau," but I have to say it's not a terrible argument. I disagree with him, though, in the fact that Cutler's experience all happened in Denver. Rodgers has the benefit of spending his NFL career so far in one system with a group of receivers he knows well. Honestly, in the upcoming game they are about even, to my mind.

But that all changes when Rodgers throws for 1 MILLION yards on Sunday night!! Can't wait.

If I had to select between Rodgers and Cutler, right now, and put one of them on a new team, a new franchise.

Easy, Rodgers. He's handled pressure superior to anything Cutler has (yes, I know Elway but Plummer got the worst of it) and he's handled it better. Cutler throws his players under the bus. Rodgers takes blame for everything bad. Rodgers makes a great throw, he says the WR made a good adjustment.

These things might seem small, petty, and what not. But I assure you, it makes the team around him WANT to go to war FOR him.

Rodgers also makes smarter decisions on the field and is far more accurate.

The NEAR three years starting, means diddly squat. Look at Alex Smith, what did that do for him? Did that improve his stock or did that ruin him? Most will say it ruined him as he would have benefited from sitting a year or two before starting.

Cutler has started 21 games more than Rodgers. Not 32 as the snippet implied.

In Cutlers second full year of starting, his stats were not better than Rodgers first year of starting. LESS overall TD's, MORE yards, MORE INT's, LESS sacks, MORE wins.

And Rodgers is a year younger than Cutler as well.

Rodgers has had several years of experience working with a talented QB head coach. And sat behind a future first ballot HoF'er.

Cutler, not so much.

Cutler has a bigger arm than Rodgers, but if you can't hit your target consistently, what value does that have?

Because they're slow to move the power rankings and the Packers were rank pretty far back and have been moving up as the Bears starter pretty far ahead and have been mainly moving back. But I agree the people who do they power ranking seem to not want to move peieces.

Also one power ranking had the Packers #3 in the whole NFL (and I think #1 in the NFC).

You could make a case for either player, but Haugh's argument is pointless. According to his logic, all you have to do to rank QB's is compare their career statistics. Lazy lazy lazy.

I think it's a dead heat. They are both very good young QB's who thus far have tended to fall flat in crunch time.

I give the edge to Rodgers because Cutler lost some points with me when he crybabied his way out of Denver.

So by logic, two years ago the right move would've been going with Chester Taylor over Adrian Peterson or a better comparison is maybe Steven Jackson over Adrian Peterson. They got more experience.

I personally always hated that arguement. If you're a good talent evaluator, you can project a player. Talent wise, Cutler and Rodgers are very similar. I think Cutler has a better arm, with probably more upside.

Cutler cries his way out of Denver and Rodgers takes the Brett Favre criticism and circus like a man.

NFL is as mental as it is physical and to me that gives the slight edge to Rodgers, but the reality is you could probably flip a coin. This is an arguement that will be had over years.

Would Bear fans be upset with Rodgers as their QB. Would Packer fans be upset with Cutler as their QB?

Probably not.

I didn't care for Cutler as a Bronco, felt he was over rated, but had a helluva arm.

I don't think this will be debated for years either, I think after this season, Bears fans and the like with see Cutler is not that great.

I would be upset if Cutler was our QB. I like to know that my QB is not going to lose self control and throw people under the bus on a routine basis.

As for him crying his way out of Denver, I don't blame him too much for that. That was more on the HC than anything, from my ignorant view point.

I can see how it would have pissed him off, but I think, given the nature of his job, that he'd use that as motivation to show his coach that going for Cassell would have been a mistake.

He does have a big-time arm, and he is a good player. But, I totally agree with your statement about his childish attitude, throwing his guys under the bus. And for as much as I love Favre and how his "fuck it, I can squeeze the pass through that window" attitude won lots of games for us, I also think it hamstrung us quite a bit as well. I see that in Cutler, especially when certain players from the other team *ahem* Philip Rivers *ahem*, gets into his head. No thanks, Chicago. I'll keep Rodgers.

That being said, Cutler's a huge upgrade over Orton and Rex.

Take a look at grants stats and compare them to forte's ... only thing he has more of is receptions and TDs. Rushing yards and yards per carry are the same.
The fact chicagos receivers arnt 1/2 as good as ours explains why hes got more passing yards.

dfosterf (25-Mar) : Still waiting on the kickoff rule changes. Did hear yesterday that the touchback proposal will now be the 30 yard line, not the 35
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Probably speed of game issues with your proposal
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Hopefully the refs don't get in the habit of throwing flags on this
beast (25-Mar) : I think when it comes to Challenges should get two strikes, so unlimited challenges as long as they keep winning them, but 2 wrong then done
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Still subject to the fines etc
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Yes, I should have been more specific. Also, they are now saying it would be a 15 yard penalty. That makes more sense .
beast (25-Mar) : Simply fined in the week to follow
beast (25-Mar) : I agree with one NFL official, it'll probably be like some of the helmets hits, not really called by the refs on the field but simply fined
