I'd much rather have Brian Cushing than Clay Mathews.

And that thing about Capers, that's hilarious. Apparently Belicheat didn't want him to leave NE haha.

If Clay transitions into the league and plays anything like is Dad.. I would have him on my team any day of the week.

But I know what you are saying.. but Matthews they say plays much smarter on the field.. I don't know, didn't watch much USC ball.

Neither did I...in fact, I've never heard of Mathews until I saw him at the senior bowl, and he's done pretty good.

Another thing about Maualuga is he has had an off the field issue...not sure how deep it actually went but I believed he admitted to jacking the guy in the face.
You never know at college parties though, the guy could have very well deserved it and since Maualuga hit him it got all blown up because of who he could become.
Never even heard of the other two backers...that being said, not a 9 pick.

Clay Matthews might be good value in the 2nd round. Curry is the LB I'd take in the top ten though. Still, the more I think about it, the more I want to see one of the LTs selected at our spot.

My preferences list would look like such:

1. Crabtree
2. Curry
3. Smith, Monroe, or Smith (the 3 OTs)
4. Malcolm Jenkins
5. Raji
6. Cushing

Completely agree that Raji should go ahead of Jerry.. no doubt, but with Raji dominating the Senior Bowl work I see no way in the world he is sitting at 9 for us. Seattle was decimated in the middle of the defense.. I personally think he makes it no further than that if he is still there then.

We shall very well see.. so many moving parts that it makes this an interesting draft..

I would love to see Seattle take Raji because that would bring Crabtree one step closer to us? Everything i have seen has Crabtree locked into Seattle.

"pack93z" wrote:

I think B.J. Raji goes as high as No. 6 to Cincinnati and as low as No. 12 to Denver.

Michael Crabtree could go as high as No. 2 to the Rams and probably as low as No. 7 the Raiders.

Either way it's possible and maybe likely that the Packers miss out on both. Jason Smith of Baylor is such a good fit for this offense though that he could be the selection and quite frankly he may give GB the biggest impact. Young Quarterbacks usually need a future young left tackle. See Denver as an example as they have Jay Cutler and Ryan Clady in place.

I'm not so sure I want to take Jenkins at #9. I'd much rather us get a tweener like Aron Maybin or Everette Brown or Brian Orakpo. I would love to have Ray Maualuga too.

Yes, Malcom Jenkins may be the best CB in the nation, but there's a lot of good CBs in the draft this year that's projected in the 2nd round.

"go.pack.go." wrote:

It is true there are some other good CB's in the draft but I remind you that Ted in all likelyhood will stay with the best available plan. I doubt that would mean he would pass on Jenkins for a tweener regardless of the changes planned on defense.

To me, it would make more sense to take the tweener that the scouts really like in a later round and get the guy at #9 with All-Pro potential. That could be an OT, CB, LB, or whatever but a player that becomes an important core type player.

At #9 one should surely be there.

Exactly.. +1.

The draft yearly is loaded with tweeners, and rarely does one taken high in the draft really make an impact. Higher risk picks IMO, so why pull the trigger that way on a kid like Brown, Orakpo, and others than have played with their hand down in college and now being asked to transition into a modified role.. more risk.

Freaking typo machine this week I am.. damn it.

ya like I said I hope jenkins is still available at #9 and they can grab someone like suggs as a FA.

I wouldnt mind Ted Thompson going for the best available as long as it was jenkins ... we already have outstanding secondaries. Having this guy would be key.
Remember back when the 49ers beat dallas in the NPC championship game in 94 ... remember what the 49ers secondary was like back then?
reminds me what our secondary is like.
