He got the tag this year.

Yeah I know, which is why it'd be hella expensive for the Raiders to tag him again.

Regardless, when has Al Davis ever cared about spending money to win? That's why I think Nandi will be tagged again, and unlikely he'll be a UFA.

Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

I'm going to do some searching but i thought they could only franchise 1 year. I'm not sure though.

I think that's only if there is a special clause added, which happens in some cases (like Haynesworth).

Practically speaking though, Franchising a player makes very highly paid. Franchising him the second straight year means that he is going to be given a 120% increase in his salary.

So if Nandi made 8 million last year, being Franchised again means he'd be making 17.6 million the next year. That is realistically way too big of a cap hit, but I don't think Al would be too bothered about that when he's got a player like Nandi being Franchised.

So for practical purposes, it's way too much of a hit to apply the Franchise tag two years in a row, but there is no set rule against it.

Franchise doesn't raise the salary that much. It is the greater of the average of the top 5 or 120%. The salary has to be 120% of the prior year, not the previous salary plus 120%. So the new salary would be 9.6 not 17.6.

Ah gotch'ya. Thanks for clearing that up. Boy I was way off the mark.

That add's another dent in my "Nandi Asomugha a Packer" dream. 😞

Any FA moves should be along either the offensive or defensive lines. If I was to rank the strongest areas of the Packers, it would go as follows.
1. WR
2. Seconday
3. QB
4. RB
5. LB
6. Oline/Dline

As the old saying goes. Games are won or lost in the trenches. Well we have been losing them.

On the defensive side. Our LBers are not thumpers. They are suppose to cover sideline to sideline. Any secondary no matter how good is going to get beat if the opposing QB has time. We need to get that pass rush back and chew up the run blocks to free the LBers.

Offensively, the pass blocking and run blocking has been to inconsistent.

My hope is that there is 1 or 2 good FA brought in, one on each line and I wouldn't be upset if all draft picks were lineman.

Asomugha signed his one year, $9.765 million tender.

I would like to see him somewhere else. Mostly in GB lol.

Should be a very interesting draft. I hope Ted pulls the trigger and goes after a FA hard this offseason.

Zero2Cool (27-Mar) : It's like listen, you made 4,201 mocks, no shit.

Zero2Cool (25-Mar) : Shouldn't be penalized cuz official screwed up
Zero2Cool (25-Mar) : Yeah, challenge until you are incorrect twice.
Zero2Cool (25-Mar) : Fining them is the goal, per the people who made the rule anyway.
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Still waiting on the kickoff rule changes. Did hear yesterday that the touchback proposal will now be the 30 yard line, not the 35
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Probably speed of game issues with your proposal
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Hopefully the refs don't get in the habit of throwing flags on this
beast (25-Mar) : I think when it comes to Challenges should get two strikes, so unlimited challenges as long as they keep winning them, but 2 wrong then done
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Still subject to the fines etc
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Yes, I should have been more specific. Also, they are now saying it would be a 15 yard penalty. That makes more sense .
