Packers Place Tauscher On Injured Reserve, Sign McCaskill

The Green Bay Packers have placed tackle Mark Tauscher on injured reserve with a knee injury and signed guard Nevin McCaskill. Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations, announced the transactions Thursday.

Tauscher started all 13 games at right tackle this season.

McCaskill, a 6-foot-4, 315-pound first-year player, was signed from the Philadelphia Eagles' practice squad. He originally signed with the Buffalo Bills in July 2007 as a non-drafted free agent from Hampton and spent the last season on the Bills' practice squad.

He will wear No. 67.

Ted Thompson continues his tradition of starting non-drafted free agents. I'm curious to see how a tackle will perform coming off the practice squad for his first start in the 13th game of the season. Anyone know how well McCaskill fits into the zone-blocking scheme Green Bay uses? Anyone have any scouting reports, footage, etc. of his college days?

I don't think he as much goes after non-drafted free agents as much as he sees talent in them and sees how they can help the team, regardless of how they got to the NFL.

I don't know anything about this guy though, it's pretty tough to follow offensive lineman in the NFL unless they are known studs.

I'm sure Moll will be starting, and McCaskill will be his backup.

Probably a body for training camp next year.

He won't even get on the field unless it's for special teams.
