How did Boykin manage to get more yards than Jones in games they played together then? What is it about Jones that makes him "way better"? Do you have anything at all to back up what you say?

Davante Adams is Jones' replacement. Why can't we ever get better sports writers covering the Packers. Boykin will be #3 to start the season, but at some point, Adams will supplant him.

I actually look at Davante as more of a DD type player. I'd like to see more of him though.

I think Boykin has shown a knack for making plays. whether he could be better than Jones is a possibility, but he would have to prove it. I have always been a big Jones supporter, but he is no longer a Packer. Hopefully Boykin blows him out of the water in time.

I really don't think the talent difference between James Jones and Boykin is substantial. Boykin is a player, just as he was in college. Jones may be better, but he's not "way" better. Moreover, Boykin is still likely to get better, whereas Jones has very likely peaked.

Either way, the Packers won't miss a beat replacing Jones with Adams and/or Boykin. The bigger concern, as always, will be the offensive line once a couple injuries hit.

I didn't point to 1 game, to be specific it was a 10 game sample (I didn't count the first 4 games because Boykin only ran 4 pass routes in all those games combined) and it's nothing like your Rodgers/Bridgewater comparison. I'm talking about games they both played in the same offense, with the same teammates, and the same QBs. You can claim that isn't a valid comparison if you want to but I think it is. Also, I wasn't even arguing Boykin was better I was just challenging the notion that Jones is "way" better. I think that comparison I made goes a good way towards refuting that idea.

I don't even think Boykin is going to have a great statistical season or anything I just don't see where there's much of a drop off between the two players.

I still think Jones is better and I think the Packers would be better with him as their #3 over Boykin but like wpr says it doesn't really matter. Jones was too expensive for what the Packers expected of him and he is gone. Boykin did a very good job last season for a #3/#4 and I suspect this season will be similar. On the other hand I would expect any WR to be able to do the same as the #3 WR for the Packers and it wouldn't surprise me to see either Adams or Janis or even both put up as good if not better numbers as Boykin as the season goes on.

Again, I apologize for the comments based on my misreading your post.

Not that the #3 never gets downfield but for the most part it's Arod reading the defense and getting the ball out quickly for a modest but nice (and safe) gain. I see Boykin running mostly cutoff plays and quick outs or slants or just getting to a spot and most often Arod on a three step drop. Of course they ask #3 to go downfield but most of what I see are plays designed to get somebody else one on one or to a soft spot against a zone.
That's not what they brought Janis in for and I think Abby is pretty much a slot type guy.
I agree that the next candidate for the #3 would be Adams. Decent size, body control, and makes the tight catch. That position needs a player with the strength to not get knocked off the pattern and get to where the ball is going to be thrown when it gets there.

They will use Janis for his speed and running routes just like the crossing pattern against the Rams. Early on he may only get a few chances a game but it will only take one to be an impact play. I see him becoming an important part of the offense but a regular #3? No. The nuances of that position and as demanding Arod is for that guy to hit that spot on time. Janis just does not strike me as a player for that at all. Let that boy run. That's what he does.

I was never completely happy with Jones even when he was doing well. It just seems like Boykin is a better target, but that's water over the dam now. The comparison is between Adams, Janis, and Boykin, and they all are damn good. I'd put ALL of them above James Jones even if the money wasn't a factor.

The better question now, given the fact that we have this wealth at WR and a bunch of at least decent TEs and Lacy is learning to catch the ball more and better and we supposedly are increasing use of the run, how do we maximize ALL those weapons? I think McCarthy answered that question, though. No huddle/hurry up offense. Letting Aaron Rodgers work his magic more times in the same amount of game time just has to be a good thing.
