Who they have: Brian Brohm, Matt Flynn, Aaron Rodgers.

How many theyll keep: 2 or 3.

Best guess (*=starter): Rodgers*, Brohm, Flynn.

Breakdown: With only three quarterbacks on the roster, and Rodgers locked in as the starter with a long-term deal, this qualifies as the easiest group to handicap. But Brohm and Flynn will be two players to watch throughout offseason practices, training camp and the preseason, because the No. 2 job behind Rodgers is anything but settled. The Packers had a first-round grade on Brohm out of Louisville last year and drafted him in the second, so they think a lot of him and invested accordingly ($900,000 signing bonus on a four-year deal). Coach Mike McCarthy has raved about Brohms classroom work and intangibles. To earn the top backup role, though, Brohm must play substantially better than he did in his first preseason, when his numbers (19-for-42, 155 yards, no touchdown passes, one interception, 45.2 passer rating) and inability to get the offense moving left coaches little choice but to name seventh-round pick Flynn the No. 2. The Packers have less invested in Flynn ($64,175 signing bonus), who was the better quarterback in August (27-for-42, 209 yards, three touchdown passes, no interceptions, 100.2 passer rating) but struggled in his only significant regular-season action, completing 2 of 5 passes for 6 yards in two truncated drives Sept. 28 at Tampa Bay. Brohms superior skill set gives him the edge entering the offseason, and the Packers no doubt hope he shows hes gotten a handle of the offense and can be a competent backup in his second season. This battle will go into August, though. Barring the unlikely event of a trade, the Packers probably will continue developing both young quarterbacks for another season.

Would be nice to see Brohm develop into a solid backup that we can someday ship off for some draft picks someday like we did with a few of Brett's backups.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

I agree. Best thing would've been if he'd have shown his skills in his first season. We could've shipped him off like we did with Hasselbeck, have Flynn as our 2nd stringer and get Brian Johnson on the team as our 3rd string QB.

I guess we can just hope that Brian will go untouched on our practice squad and that Brohm does show what he can do this year.

I hope one of these guys cna step up; I remember that game with flynn in it and they couldnt get him off the field fast enough - guy looked very raw.

If rodgers gets hurt its nice to know we have a decent back-up

Neither Flynn or Brohm will be on the practice squad. They have valuable experience with someone who's revered as a excellent QB coach. Brohm was a 2nd round investment who would have been a 1st rounder the prior year he was drafted, potentially.

Flynn is our backup, no way do we even try to hide him on the practice squad. He'd get snagged up right away.

I think we should trade one of them for a veteran backup.

Aah, didn't think about that when posting.

When I was saying Brian, I meant Brian Johnson. The kid that we signed after the draft. We can't put Brohm on the practice squad. He'll be off there in no time.

dfosterf (6h) : The only problem with that is he isn't a guard either.
dfosterf (7h) : Put him at right guard. That is where he will be coached. That is where he will compete. He is not even allowed to look at the LT playbook.
