Ted Thompson has not done anything in free agency for the past three seasons.

Anything? Brandon Chillar was a pretty intricate piece of our defense last year (no matter how poorly they played).

There is the problem though. He brought in Chillar, who saw time, and you are using that as a basis to the fact that Ted does sign FA.

Then you state "no matter how poorly they played". That's what is frustrating. I'm not knocking Chillar at all. In spots he is a nice backup. However instead of Ted addressing the average play from Poppinga buy UPGRADING he went out and got an average guy to back him up.

You and Dhazer try this concept on for size for once: Teams do not let good players get to free agency. And the top players always go to the warm weather cities as their first choice instead of freezing their nuts off in Green Bay. As a result we have to way overpay.

BTW, which linebacker would have been better than Chillar, to go along with your upgrading theory? Don't just sit there spouting about what Thompson doesn't do. Give us the name of this phantom linebacker and what it would have taken to get him here.

Chillar was brought in to neutralize tight ends. You do know Dallas has a real good one that keeps torching us and they were the top team in the NFC going into last season?

I don't mean to rip you guys, but your negativity eats away at me.

As far as WHO GB should have brought in remember 1 thing. Chicago needed a QB and they found a way to make it happen. You want some names.

Lance Briggs
Dansby
Mitchell
Suggs
Boley

I know, they cost to much money......blah, blah, blah

How many seasons did it TAKE Chicago to get a QB???
And once again.......Cutler hasn't proven ANYTHING in Chicago yet. He may end up being a bust. Just because he was decent in Denver doesn't mean he will light it up for Chicago. I DO believe he had a losing record there, didn't he? So before you crown him "QB KING" of the North division, maybe we should wait and see if he actually DOES something to EARN it.

He signed........thats as much as he's accomplished for Chicago so far. And he cost Chicago a bundle already. Will he end up being worth that? ONLY time will tell.

I'm curious what some of these guys would have traded for Jared Allen?

I would've loved to get him too, but Minnesota gave a first and two thirds for him and they had better picks. Allen was never a free agent.

Like wise with Terrell Suggs. Not a free agent. He's a franchise player. What would you give for him?

Saying go out and get this guy is one thing, but throwing out names of players who are not unrestricted free agents is nitpicking. I understand not wanting to give up a first and two thirds for a player. I get that and you don't see it happen all that much so it's not as if this is Ted Thompson doing one thing and everyone else doing another.

I do think not using free agency on a consistent basis is a problem. You look back and you think about the unrestricted free agents that GB missed out on and I understand some of the concerns. Some of those players may of came in handy last season.

That's the concern. New England could have taken Greg Jennings over Chad Jackson. I just did what some are doing with Ted Thompson to the best regime of the decade. That's kind of ridiculous especially when GB is getting good players via the draft. They aren't getting anything via free agency though and that's the point some are trying to make.

Is Ted Thompson utilizing all his options on a consistent basis? I would say no.

dfosterf (18m) : The only problem with that is he isn't a guard either.
dfosterf (1h) : Put him at right guard. That is where he will be coached. That is where he will compete. He is not even allowed to look at the LT playbook.
dfosterf (16h) : Kidding aside, I hope the best for him.
