GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy seemed ready to give a full-on assessment of why he thought Eddie Lacy and the running game struggled in Sunday's loss to the Detroit Lions.

"Eddie needs to play better," McCarthy began.

And then he stopped himself.

"I'm not going to do this anymore; I don't correct individuals in the media," McCarthy said Monday. "We've seen the film. Corrections have been made. Our running game wasn't nearly what it needed to be.

Dude runs hard. He's not being set up to be successful. The Loins were clearly keying on him. Yet no misdirection, no screens. Everybody knows he's just a decoy, enabling Aaron to continue throwing deep.

NOTE: Fuck the Bears.

I really don't know what's up with him and Aaron, they have both started this season performing worse than any point in their entire tenure here.

First of all, maybe Mike should look in the mirror and realize he has to do some things differently. If you want your guys to do things differently - you damn well better be prepared to do the same. It is difficult to inspire others when you aren't doing them any favors by stepping up yourself.

Second, sort out this mess that is referred to as the "offensive line" which as a whole is more like a speed bump than the wall it should be (or at least resemble). Since they have shown something at times - the problems may go beyond the guys on the field. Wherever the problem is, it needs to be fixed.

Third, how about being more creative with the running game? This goes along with my first point, but should be expanded on. buried in the end zone and calling a run sounds like something a stoner playing Madden would not even consider. Utilize the depth we have at RB. Did Mike forget that we have Harris who would be excellent for running a screen or in a 2 RB formation? I am not going to say I would make a good coach, but how can I come up with these ideas while posting on a forum and a guy who gets paid big bucks can't do it with a week to prepare? Seriously - other teams are really benefiting from multiple back formations, why don't we?

It seems that being stubborn on the sidelines has finally caught up to this team. It has been an issue for some time, but this year it is really biting us in the ass. The game evolves, and so must a team to stay competitive.

If Mike McCarthy is going to insist on calling the plays, he needs to get more creative, period.
This vanilla, predictable play calling that he displayed against the Lions just won't cut it.

Throwing Lacy under the bus is just plain wrong.
Everyone in my living room on Sunday knew he was going to call a running play with Lacy 5 yards deep in the endzone, and sure enough. Tack on a safety!
That may be the dumbest call I have ever seen McCarthy make. And he says Lacy needs to play better!

An offensive genius? Ha, McCarthy is stubborn and has tunnel vision. There is no genius in that.

I would like to thank everyone who has already posted my exact feelings on that quote.

We saw last year that Lacy is the type of runner that wears on a defense, but he cannot do that only carrying the ball 11 times a game.

IMO "Sir" Lacy certainly could do better if the O-line did better. In addition, our QB and his Receivers could do better if the O-line did better. Needing TE's to pass protect speaks volumes all by itself.

Coach McCarthy has become very predictable with his play calling. I'd like to see the Offensive Coordinator call a few games. Many teams do that, and the Head Coach always VETO the play and send in his own. Next, I'm not suggesting trick plays, but plays not seen much these days, like the "Draw Play" and "The Sweep". If the Pass plays are too complicated, then dumb them down to simpler and more effective ones. The only drawback is that all hinges the O-line's play, weather their being tossed around by larger/stronger D-linemen. 🤦

Really?

Now maybe Tolzien should read JPP and react by throwing it away or hitting a different read, whatever. But dude was basically a rookie back there, barely knew the play book. And JPP isn't necessarily gonna make it obvious he knows the play, he's gonna do what Woody would do, and what Sam Shields learned from Woody. Bait the QB into making that throw.

Either way, Mike isn't doing his players any favors. Lombardi said, THEY KNOW THE SWEEP IS COMING, BUT THEY CAN'T STOP IT. Well, he also ran a reverse once in awhile.

Detroit was probably the worst game I've seen from our OL it was really a low mark. Bakthiari "D", Sitton "F", Linsley "D", Lang "F", Bulaga "D".
