Just saw this on JSO. A punishing, true blocking FB. Cool.

5-11 3/4 250 out of San Jose State. Played with the Dolphins last season.

Green Bay - Regardless of whether the Packers re-sign FB John Kuhn, the need for a bruising fullback and big, blocking tight end couldn't have been more obvious than when they faced a first and goal at the 9-yard line against San Francisco in the playoffs.

FB Ina Liaina to a two-year deal worth $930,000 (Minimum salaries of $420,000 in 2014, $510,000 in 2015)

Doesn't look like Kuhn will be back.

Long shot. But I'd really like to see Jonathan Amosa back for another try.

Packers Reportedly Work Out FB Jonathan Amosa

Seems like they're keeping tabs on him at least

Just a precaution. I wouldn't read a whole lot into it. You may be right and Kuhn may be gone but if the Packers can reach an agreeable deal with him they can cut this guy with no harm done. I assume there is no signing bonus or anything else that would count against the cap if he gets cut. I wouldn't be surprised if they brought in several more "cheap" potential replacements for Kuhn just to kick the tires. Who knows Ted Thompson could find a high performance radial among a bunch of bias ply retreads (all the young guys are going huh? WTF is he talking about)

Another way to look at it is its $420,000 more we can allocate to Kuhn if they decide they want to hold onto him. lets say they would resign Kuhn for 1.5 million and he wants 2. they could give him the 2 and still be where they wanted to be. Or they can let him walk and be 1 million ahead.

I just pulled these numbers out of the air for demonstration. I have no idea if they are anywhere close to numbers we would be talking in a real negotiation.

I kinda like the idea of a fullback who can block the socks off of a defender though.

Kuhn is Packer player through and through but I don't know that he is much more than a sentimental favorite. He doesn't get enough touches to warrant a lot of money. Deep down I'd rather throw the extra money they would spend on him at Jones or Shields or EDS or Starks and let someone else take his spot. On the other hand he is a known quantity and we know he will put forth his best effort every time. Kind of a tough call.

I respect your right to have your opinion but that doesn't mean I agree with it or respect you for having it.

With a renewed emphasis on the running game, I can easily see them keeping 2 FBs on the roster next season. Kuhn never really impressed me as a true lead blocker, as good as he is in pass protection. He's probably worth keeping around, but his time may be up. If he stays, no real harm done as long as we add a good freight train of a lead blocker on this Packers team.
