I think if Johnny Jolly is reinstated, and if those salary numbers are correct of $2.5 million, the Packers would release him outright rather than risk paying that amount. Unless they can give him a looksie during Training Camp without costing anything ... I think that would happen and if they decided he has value, restructure his contract if necessary.

By the way.. If he is under contract should this not be in the Packer Forum?

I still feel bad about how Jolly was jetisoned back to Houston by the NFL and not allowed to stay in Green Bay for the help he needed with his addiction and would have received. That said, it would take him a long time to get back into football shape, and would the Packers make the investment? Athletic 300lbers don't grown on trees, and Jolly would have really helped last year.

Maybe we could PUP him and work him back into shape?

I don't see the Packers taking him back if he's allowed to play again. Too much risk involved and I think the stress from trying to get back into the NFL will lead him right back to using and eventually getting busted again. I hope I'm wrong cause he was a pretty damn good player but off the field he couldn't get it together.

How the friggin' hell did my name get dragged into this shit.

Jolly done in GB, probably NFL, also, we'll see. We retain his rights. Idiot pisses me off, they usually do. I liked his play, never want him back.

Perhaps if the Packers could have enrolled him in some structured classes or something, it would have been different. Aaron Rodgers said it was wrong of the NFL to take Jolly away from his support system, and he's right. When Edgar Bennett first came to the Packers as a non-player, his first assignment was to keep a certain player out of trouble. I forget whom it was. Teams should be allowed to do that. Assign a representative from the team to help guide a troubled player.

I heard Johnny Jolly say that he started codeine after his shoulder injury in 2009, but then I just read a quote of his saying he's had the addiction from high school.

Well Jolly certainly shirked all of his responsibility with addiction from the beginning, like most do. It wasn't until he was at the end of his rope that he finally came around and new he needed help. It would be a very good story if we stuck with him and he made it back to the field, but I think a lot of Packer fans have already written him off. I'd be pulling for him though. There isn't anything better in our country than when a person with 2.5 strikes against him makes it. Deep down, we all root for that kind of thing.

He signed a one year contract with no guarantees, so if he screws up or can't play to the level they need him to, then you can simply cut him and walk away.

But if the kid can still play and he can play even close to the level he once did, 2.5 for a year is a bargain of a contract. Remember this kid may have been the best Dlineman we had.

That said.. his biggest hurdle next is two fold.. one the NFL letting him back in (the viewpoint used elsewhere (Vick, Stallworth) is that they served their time and paid there debt to society).

The second hurdle may be tougher... the courts allowing him flexibility in his probation.

I think the odds a slim he plays ball again.

dfosterf (27-Mar) : Does anyone know what Lambeau field improvements got put on hold? My guess would be for the 2025 draft
Zero2Cool (27-Mar) : It's like listen, you made 4,201 mocks, no shit.
Zero2Cool (27-Mar) : Cuz during the draft "I had them mocked there!" as if it's amazing.

Zero2Cool (25-Mar) : Shouldn't be penalized cuz official screwed up
Zero2Cool (25-Mar) : Yeah, challenge until you are incorrect twice.
Zero2Cool (25-Mar) : Fining them is the goal, per the people who made the rule anyway.
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Still waiting on the kickoff rule changes. Did hear yesterday that the touchback proposal will now be the 30 yard line, not the 35
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Probably speed of game issues with your proposal
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Hopefully the refs don't get in the habit of throwing flags on this
beast (25-Mar) : I think when it comes to Challenges should get two strikes, so unlimited challenges as long as they keep winning them, but 2 wrong then done
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Still subject to the fines etc
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Yes, I should have been more specific. Also, they are now saying it would be a 15 yard penalty. That makes more sense .
